Koch & Rodrigo Both Feature | Strongest Possible Leeds United Lineup With Their New Signings

As we head towards the start of the 2020/21 Premier League campaign, clubs are already closing in on their final preparation.

Leeds United, in particular, are among the most exciting teams, having recently won their promotion after 16 years. It will be interesting to see how they fare upon their return to the top-flight.

In this article, we will talk about the strongest possible Leeds United lineup with their new signings next season.

Formation: 4-1-4-1

Defence

Missing out on Ben White will serve as a massive blow for Leeds United heading into the new season. Fortunately, they have a more than capable replacement in Robin Koch, who was brought in from SC Freiburg this summer.

The German international should occupy the centre-back role alongside captain Liam Cooper, thus forming the heart of Leeds’ four-man backline. Marcelo Bielsa doesn’t have many alternatives, though and he must look for at least another centre-back in the market.

Nevertheless, Luke Ayling is a guaranteed starter at right-back due to no proper alternatives while Stuart Dallas should get the nod ahead of Barry Douglas on the opposite flank.

In goal, Illan Meslier should be rewarded for his performances last season with a starting berth in between the sticks, ahead of the experienced Kiko Casilla.

Midfield

Kalvin Phillips is the undisputed number one holding midfielder for Leeds United. He is one of the few players who already have the quality to play in the Premier League, and it will be interesting to see how he performs in the upcoming campaign.

Leeds United are yet to sign a new midfielder, so we expect Pablo Hernandez and Mateusz Klich to partner Phillips, though in a slightly more advanced role. However, the Whites have been linked with a move for Udinese’s Rodrigo de Paul and his potential arrival could provide stiff competition to both of these midfielders.

Attack

Rodrigo Moreno was a massive coup for Leeds United this summer. He is more than expected to start ahead of Patrick Bamford in the number nine role, and it will be interesting to see whether or not he can provide some much-needed productivity.

Jack Harrison and Helder Costa are set to remain at Elland Road, with the latter signed from Wolves this summer. Both of them look like guaranteed starters in the wider attacking positions as of now, with Ezgjan Alioski and Tyler Roberts serving as alternatives.
