Premiership leaders Rangers continued their sensational start to the league campaign after a 4-0 win against Dundee United. The Gers came into the tie on the back of an unfortunate injury in training, where Nigerian centre-half Leon Balogun was issued another injury setback. Filip Helander came into the side as the former Brighton man’s replacement.
An early goal from Ryan Kent broke the deadlock before another first-half strike from skipper James Tavernier on his 250th appearance for the club doubled the lead. Kemar Roofe scored the third in the second half before Scott Arfield got in on the act late on as well. Ryan Jack, Alfredo Morelos and Brandon Barker were all forced to come off injured during the tie, and this will surely come as a point of concern to Gerrard ahead of the next fixture.
Here Are The Rangers Player Ratings Vs Dundee United:
Rangers Player Ratings Vs Dundee United
Jon McLaughlin – 6.5
The Scottish goalkeeper wasn’t called into action on too many occasions, but he was perhaps fortunate not to concede after failing to catch a routine cross in the first half of the fixture.
James Tavernier – 7
The skipper bombarded forward on every possible opportunity and even managed to score a goal in his 250th appearance for the club. Worked hard while tracking back and covering as well.
Connor Goldson – 7.5
The big centre-half put in a solid shift in the heart of defence tonight as he wasn’t troubled on too many instances by the United attackers. Composed in possession for the most part too.
Filip Helander – 7.5
The defender was a last minute addition to the side after Leon Balogun picked up an injury during the warm-ups. Looked as secure as ever at the back and played some good forward passes too.
Borna Barisic – 7
The speedster put in an extremely fluent shift down the left flank tonight as it was his cross that led to Tavernier’s goal. Got booked in the tie and was taken off by Gerrard as a precaution.
Ryan Jack – 6.5
The midfield commander was fluent with his passing for the entire duration he was on the pitch. Had to be substituted in the first-half with an unfortunate injury though.
Steven Davis – 8
The veteran midfielder didn’t have the most influential of openings to the tie but gradually made his way into the mix after that. Composed on the ball and never looked flustered in possession.
Brandon Barker – 6.5
Another one of the players who was forced to come off prematurely due to an injury. Wasn’t allowed enough time on the pitch to have too much of an impact.
Ianis Hagi – 6.5
The Romanian struggled to get into the pace of the game for most of the fixture. Picked up a couple of decent positions in attack but couldn’t have the impact he might’ve been hoping for.
Ryan Kent – 8
The speedster was right on top of his game again as it was his goal that broke the deadlock in the first half. Made some dangerous runs and looked quite threatening in the second half too.
Kemar Roofe – 7
The Jamaican forward picked up multiple good positions on the pitch all through the ninety, with his only goal of the tie coming in the second half. Worked hard off the ball and held it up well too.
Substitutes
Glen Kamara – 6.5
The former Arsenal man wasn’t required to do too much defending tonight as the United attackers weren’t able to cause any offensive pressure. Passed the ball around with good confidence though.
Alfredo Morelos – 7
The Colombian showed good intent and determination after being thrown into the fray during the first-half. Wasted one great chance before coming off with what looked like a painful injury.
Calvin Bassey – 7
The youngster was all over the United back-line in the late stages as he charged forward on every opportunity after coming on in the second half. Looks like a real prospect for the future.
Scott Arfield – 8
The midfielder came into the tie around the hour-mark and was sublime for the rest of the ninety. Had a couple of venomous shots saved but picked up a goal and an assist after being brought in.
