Everton will face off against Fleetwood Town at the Highbury Stadium on Wednesday night looking to secure a positive result and book a place in the fourth round of the EFL Cup. The Toffees have made a great start to their domestic campaign after picking up three consecutive victories against Tottenham Hotspur, Salford City and West Bromwich Albion respectively.
Carlo Ancelotti will probably opt for a 4-4-2 formation as he looks to unleash Moise Kean and Anthony Gordon as his primary strikers up top. However, the Italian tactician is expected to rest a lot of his first-team stars for this cup clash away at Lancashire.
4-4-2 Everton Predicted Lineup To Face Fleetwood Town
Defence
João Virgínia will lineup in between the sticks for the Toffees in place of Jordan Pickford, who gets a well-deserved rest ahead of this weekend’s Premier League contest versus Crystal Palace. Michael Keane will once again partner Yerry Mina at the heart of the Everton backline as they look to restrict the Fleetwood attackers from scoring on Wednesday.
Jonjoe Kenny could get the nod to operate at right-back while Niels Nkounkou features on the other side as the left-back. Ancelotti will ask both his full-backs to maintain a solid defensive shape at the back and also make some promising runs out on the wide areas so that they can deliver some inviting crosses to their teammates up top.
Midfield
Tom Davies will anchor the midfield along with Gylfi Sigurdsson, who has lost his first-team privileges due to his lack of form in recent weeks. However, the Icelandic international would get another chance to impress when he laces up to face-off versus Joey Barton’s men in midweek.
Bernard will look to use his pace and dribbling ability down the left flank while Theo Walcott hopes to do the same on the other wing. Both Everton wide players need to stay active as they will carry most of the creative burden in the opposition half.
Alex Iwobi, Andre Gomes and Abdoulaye Doucoure will make up the numbers on the Toffees bench as they await their chance to shine as the second-half substitutes if needed.
Attack
Anthony Gordon will have to strike up a fruitful partnership with Moise Kean as the pair will get the responsibility to spearhead Ancelotti’s attack up top. Both youngsters will be desperate to impress as they have often been starved of first-team minutes recently.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison could be available for selection on the bench. Still, they will only be introduced if Everton are in need of a late goal in this upcoming cup contest at the Highbury Stadium.
