Manchester United will face off against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday night looking to pick up a win and progress into the next stage of the EFL Cup. The Red Devils suffered a disappointing 3-1 loss at the hands of Crystal Palace at Old Trafford last weekend which highlighted the defensive shortcomings they are facing at the moment.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will probably set his side up in a 4-2-3-1 formation and might make multiple changes to his first-team for this upcoming cup encounter away at Bedfordshire.
4-2-3-1 Manchester United Predicted Lineup To Face Luton Town
Defence
Dean Henderson could get a start in goal for the Red Devils as Solskjaer looks to rotate his goal-keeping options for this midweek clash. Harry Maguire will partner Eric Bailly at the heart of the Man United defence as they try to put on a much-improved defensive showing against the EFL Championship outfit.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka might get the nod to operate at right-back while Brandon Williams receives another opportunity to impress as the left-back. Solskjaer will ask both his full-backs to be more adventurous in the opposition half so that they can provide enough support to the front players.
Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe will miss out on this cup game due to injury, so Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Victor Lindelof will make up the numbers on the bench.
Midfield
Nemanja Matic and Fred are expected to anchor the Man United midfield and establish the away team’s dominance at the centre of the park. The talented trio of Daniel James, Donny van de Beek and Mason Greenwood will operate just ahead of them as part of Solskjaer’s attack.
Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes could be named on the bench but will only be utilised if the Mancunian outfit require a goal late in the game.
Attack
Odion Ighalo will once again get the responsibility to lead the line for the Red Devils down the middle. The Nigerian forward will be hungry to impress, but it won’t be easy for him to find the back of the net as Luton have conceded only two goals in their past four matches in domestic competitions.
Anthony Martial could be used off the bench if Solskjaer decides to call upon his services in midweek.
