Lozano’s Underwhelming Campaign In Italian Football
Lozano encountered a difficult season at Naples as he struggled to discover consistency with his performances on the left side of Gennaro Gattuso’s attack. The Mexico City-born attacker featured in 37 matches for the Italian outfit in the previous campaign, netting five goals and providing two assists on all fronts.
The 25-year-old struggled to be productive with his offensive contributions after averaging 1.3 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in the Serie A last season. However, he deserves a pat on the back for making 80.1% of his attempted passes in the Italian top-flight (stats via whoscored).
The 39-time Mexican international can benefit from switching clubs this summer as it will allow him to make a fresh start and rekindle his old form at the highest level. The Toffees can also profit a lot from acquiring his services as he will offer more variety to their attack at Goodison Park.
What Will The Mexican Wing Wizard Add To Carlo Ancelotti’s Side?
Lozano can use his blistering pace, agility and ball-control to complete some dangerous dribbles down the left flank. However, he struggled to do so too many times for Napoli, which highlights his inadequacies in the final third over the past 12 months.
The Mexican sensation was a prolific goal-scorer during his time with PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie. So far, he failed to live up to the reputation surrounding his big switch to San Paolo Stadium last summer. Lozano is a hard-working winger and is highly versatile as he can operate in any position across the frontline. He is primarily a left-sided winger but can also play on the other side down the right flank or as a centre-forward down the middle.
Based on his poor form of late, the Toffees would be taking a calculated gamble if they decide to launch a move to land him before the transfer window comes to a halt later this year. The Mexican wide player will add plenty of pace and dynamism to Carlo Ancelotti’s frontline. Plus, he could potentially form a devastating attacking partnership with Richarlison, Bernard and James Rodriguez at the blue half of Merseyside next season.
Lozano will also serve as a significant upgrade over the inconsistent Theo Walcott and the inexperienced Anthony Gordon at Goodison Park in the coming seasons. With all things considered, Ancelotti should try his best to seal a move for his former player this summer as he will improve the quality of his first-team in the long-run.
