Chelsea will face off against Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday night hoping to pick up a victory in the round of 16 of the EFL Cup. The Blues were held to an entertaining 3-3 draw by West Bromwich Albion last weekend. Hence, Frank Lampard will be desperate to get a positive response from his players in this upcoming London derby.
The West London outfit could set themselves up in 4-2-3-1 formation with Ben Chilwell and Edouard Mendy expected to make their debuts in this cup clash versus Spurs.
4-2-3-1 Chelsea Predicted Lineup To Face Tottenham Hotspur
Defence
Edouard Mendy could make his debut for the Blues in midweek after Lampard used Willy Caballero at the weekend. The Senegalese goalie would be eager to impress on his first start as a Chelsea player. Kurt Zouma might partner Fikayo Tomori at the heart of the away side’s defence as they look to keep the Tottenham attackers at bay on Tuesday night.
Cesar Azpilicueta will operate as the right-back while Ben Chilwell makes his full Chelsea debut at left-back. Lampard will ask both his full-backs to get forward and provide some natural width out on the wide areas.
Thiago Silva and Marcos Alonso will be rested on the bench but could come on to provide cover for the defensive positions if required.
Midfield
Jorginho could play along with Ross Barkley at the centre of the park. The dynamic duo will assume the duties of the holding midfielders as they look to win the 50-50 midfield duels and initiate some promising attacks on the break.
The talented three of Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Callum Hudson-Odoi will play just ahead of them as part of Lampard’s attack. Both Mount and Hudson-Odoi managed to find the back of the net against the Baggies last weekend which will keep them in high spirits heading into this midweek cup game at North London.
Mateo Kovačić will be available for selection on the bench as he awaits his chance to influence the game as a second-half substitute if Lampard decides to call upon his services.
Attack
Olivier Giroud will lead the line for the West London giants up top. The French striker has been a useful squad player for Chelsea over the past couple of years. Hence, we can expect him to be up for this game as he looks to impress his gaffer in search of more first-team minutes this season.
Tammy Abraham will be given a rest on the bench following his heavy involvement at the Hawthorns last weekend.
