According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Bayern Munich are among clubs interested in Lazar Samardzic. The Hertha Berlin youngster is desperate to leave the club this summer, putting “half of Europe” on red alert. RB Leipzig are believed to be in pole position in the pursuit of Samadzic, but Barcelona and Bayern Munich aren’t behind and are monitoring the situation of the midfielder.
Who is Lazar Samardzic?
Samardzic has been regarded as one of the most talented young players to come out of the Hertha Berlin youth academy in recent years. The young midfielder has been playing for the Hertha youth team since 2009 and was recently promoted to the Under-19 squad last summer, due to his consistent performances in the youth competitions.
A central attacking midfielder by trade, Samardzic is primarily known for his technique and vision. He is adept in finding key passes in the final third and has excellent close control that allows him to sneak through tight spaces.
Although Samardzic is not exactly short, he has a remarkable balance, making it easier for him to dribble past defenders. However, what makes him such a sought-after prospect in German football is his productivity.
The German youngster was notably involved in 54 goals in just 40 matches in the U-17 Bundesliga before being promoted to the U-19 level, where he scored 14 goals in 16 games. He is, therefore, gunning for the senior level.
Do Bayern Munich Need Samardzic?
Bayern Munich’s youth department is booming in recent years, largely thanks to the club’s ability to attract young, talented players across Germany. It has paid dividends too, producing talents like Alphonso Davies, Joshua Zirkzee and Sarpreet Singh.
In Lazar Samarzic, they will have an opportunity to strengthen their youth department further. As mentioned earlier, the 18-year-old is among the most promising players in Germany, who is destined to play at the highest level of football within the coming years.
It is also fair to consider the fact that the Bavarians may soon need a new attacking midfielder as Thomas Muller nears the final phase of his career. Bayern haven’t had much luck with big-money signings like Philippe Coutinho and James Rodriguez, so perhaps a young promising talent like Samardzic could do the trick.
