According to Gianluca Di Marzio, as cited by Fussball Transfers, Tottenham are keen on securing the services of Ivan Perisic. The Inter Milan star is being eyed as a potential option for Jose Mourinho as he looks to add more reinforcements in the attacking department. The Lilywhites do have the upper hand in the pursuit as Inter consider Tanguy Ndombele as a prime target and the two clubs could potentially work out a swap deal.
What can Perisic bring to the table?
Perisic is regarded as one of the most experienced attackers in European football. Currently, on loan at Bayern Munich, the winger has made a total of 134 appearances in Bundesliga while featuring in 163 matches for his parent club, Inter Milan. He has also won 88 caps for the Croatian national team, notably helping them reach the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
As far as gameplay is concerned, Perisic is advertised as an old-school winger. He is blessed with pace and dynamism, which allow him to beat players and get to the byline. He can then use his ability to cross the ball and create tons of opportunities. In fact, crosses are the primary source of the winger’s overall chance creation.
So essentially, Perisic is excellent when it comes to set-pieces. Additionally, the 31-year-old can feature on both flanks and even in the attacking midfield role, if necessary. Such versatility makes him a fascinating asset for any manager.
How will Perisic fit into Spurs?
Perisic is an interesting option for Tottenham Hotspur for multiple reasons. The Lilywhites already have a bunch of options in the wide attacking role, especially having signed Steven Bergwijn in the January transfer window.
However, there are a few talking points to be considered here. Erik Lamela, in particular, has consistently struggled with injuries and might be on his way out of north London. Also, Ryan Sessegnon has failed to live up to the expectations following his move to Spurs last summer. Even Dele Alli has experienced a slight decline over the past 12 months.
That could make Perisic a vital asset in the Tottenham attack. The Croatian could provide some much-needed competition for the likes of Son Heung-Min and Lucas Moura. In fact, he could turn out to be a better option than the latter due to his ability to beat players and provide crosses from the byline that should tune in well with Harry Kane’s style of play.
