According to a recent report by the Daily Record, Northern Ireland manager Ian Baraclough has urged Rangers winger Jordan Jones to find a move away from the Ibrox stadium at the earliest to reinvigorate his promising international career.
The report suggests that Rangers gaffer Steven Gerrard sees the speedster as surplus to requirements and that the manager has given him his blessing to move away if an offer does come in before the window slams shut. Despite his lack of game time, Baraclough has named him in their Nations League squad for next month.
Although the report has clarified that Jordan Jones has been urged to leave Rangers this summer, whether or not Gerrard actually sanctions a move remains to be seen. Speaking on the matter, Ian Baraclough said, “Jordan is someone I have spoken to several times. I want to help players be settled at their clubs or find new clubs and be there for them to pick up a phone and speak to and if we can help them in any shape or form it is our job to do that. Jordan is an exciting talent and he wants to play football and regular games to give himself the best chance of performing on the international stage. He is talented but at this moment in time Rangers is a competitive squad and Steven Gerrard has spoken to him and said he can find a new club if that comes up.”
What Kind Of Player Is Jordan Jones?
The Northern Ireland international speedster joined the Ibrox club from Kilmarnock prior to the start of last season. Having arrived on a free transfer, it’s safe to say that not too much was expected from the talented winger. A good carrier of the ball, Jones is capable of operating on either flank and offers good dynamism in the final third of the pitch as well. Composed in possession and more than capable of picking out a long-range pass, the former Boro man’s biggest selling point is his ability to strike the ball from massive distances and still keep it on target.
The attacker tends to offer a decent presence in the opposition box, and despite not being the tallest player in the world, he certainly puts himself about physically as well. Not afraid to try and take on a defender, his dribbling skills are right up there with the best too. Jones has the quality required to operate on either flank, while there have been instances over his career when the 25-year-old has even been deployed as a number ten. Despite his struggles since making the switch to the Ibrox, there is no denying the obvious quality that Jones has on the ball.
What Is Rangers’ Current Situation In The Wide Areas?
The permanent acquisition of Ianis Hagi was made in an attempt to shore up the wide areas, but one thing that must be conceded is that the Romanian is an attacking-midfielder by position. On the other flank though, Ryan Kent has been nothing short of sublime since the start of the season. Although the pairing of these two speedsters has so far yielded positive results for Gerrard’s men, depending on them in every fixture would be like asking for trouble. Brandon Barker, Jamie Murphy and Jordan Jones form the Gers’ alternate options, and it’s safe to say that none of them have lived up to the required standards.
Jordan Jones Has Been Urged To Leave Rangers This Summer: Should Gerrard Cash In?
The speedster’s Rangers career has been far from a successful one, and it perhaps doesn’t come as too much of a surprise that Gerrard is looking to do away with him. The attacker has featured in just seven Premiership matches since making the switch to Glasgow, while he is yet to open his scoring for the club as well. With only two assists to show for his time at the Ibrox so far, and with not even a minute of league action under his belt this season, it would probably be in the club’s best interest to get what they can for the player that they had acquired for free last summer.
