In a recent report, Sussexlive has claimed that Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster is on the radar of several clubs this summer. It is believed that Crystal Palace have now joined the race with Brighton and Hove Albon, Sheffield United, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Swansea City in pursuit of the talented attacker. The bookmakers have listed the Eagles as 6/4 favourites to secure a move for the Reds forward, who is yet to make a positive impact in the Premier League (via Sussexlive).
Brewster’s Eventful Year In English Football
Brewster had a tough lesson to learn last weekend as he missed a decisive penalty in the shootout against Arsenal in the Community Shield final. To his credit, the London-born marksman had the pleasure of experiencing a fruitful six-month loan spell with Swansea City in the second half of the previous campaign.
The 20-year-old participated in 22 matches for the Swans last season, scoring 11 goals in the process. However, he had to endure a bitter end to the 2019-20 campaign as the Welsh outfit were beaten over two legs by Brentford in the EFL Championship playoff semifinals.
The England U-21 international did well to average 2.5 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Championship, but was guilty of giving away the ball cheaply as he ended the season with a pass completion rate of 64.2% in the English second tier (stats via whoscored).
What Does The English Prospect Offer On The Pitch?
Brewster has got blistering pace which he can use to stretch the opposition defence by the running the channels in the final third. He has a knack for finding space inside the opponent’s penalty box and usually hits the target with his shot attempts. The English centre-forward is slowly but surely transforming himself into an unforgiving finisher in front of goal, so it is no wonder that there is so much interest in his services this summer.
Should Jurgen Klopp Sanction Brewster’s Departure This Summer?
Brewster has enjoyed a bright start to the pre-season after finding the back of the net three times in his last three appearances for the Reds this month. The early signs have been quite promising from him. Hence, it makes sense for Jurgen Klopp to keep the English whizkid in his squad for the new campaign.
Brewster could serve as a decent back-up to Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi at Anfield next season. Plus, his pace and goal-threat might make him a good impact substitute off the bench. Therefore, Klopp should not consider sanctioning Brewster’s exit in this off-season as he has the potential to shine as part of Liverpool’s match-day squad. Alternatively, the German head coach could also choose to send Brewster out on loan during this ongoing transfer window so that he can come back as a better version of himself next summer.
