According to Mirror, Liverpool could rival Tottenham in pursuit of Ismaila Sarr. The Reds have reportedly entered the race to sign the Watford winger, who has attracted the interest of a host of clubs across England. Spurs, along with Manchester United, are among the clubs eyeing a move for Sarr, who is tipped to leave Watford following their relegation this past season.
Ismaila Sarr: A star in the making?
Since joining Watford, in a €30 million move from Rennes, Sarr has become one of the rising stars in the Premier League this past season. He has, in fact, been one of the bright spots in an otherwise dire campaign for the Hornets that saw them getting relegated.
Indeed, only Crystal Palace and Norwich City scored fewer than the 36 goals Watford scored during the 2019/20 campaign, with Sarr being involved in 11 of them. Aside from his productivity, he has impressed the onlookers with his pace and tenacity, thus offering some real spark in the club’s offensive unit.
Sarr’s pace has already made him a scourge for the defenders on the counter-attack. But, he also has a box of trickery, having averaged 1.7 successful dribbles per game. It means the 22-year-old is useful when it comes to probing the opposition.
Another key feature in Sarr’s game is his determination in winning back possession for his team and immediately looking to find that elusive pass in the final third. He notably averaged one attempted tackle and almost one key pass per game this past season. A tally of 18 pressures exerted per 90 minutes is also quite impressive.
Why Jose must sign Sarr this summer
The above statistics are enough to suggest that Sarr could be much more productive in a better team. With Watford being relegated, Tottenham Hotspur might be an ideal destination for the attacker.
A teammate of Sadio Mane on the international stage with Senegal, Sarr possesses a similar pace and quality going forward. It should tune in well with the counter-attacking game Jose Mourinho has implemented at Spurs. With the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min leading the line, the youngster could undoubtedly become a revelation in north London.
Indeed, Sarr should be a perfect replacement for Erik Lamela and a potential upgrade over Lucas Moura as Mourinho looks to add more quality into the Tottenham attack this summer. It is also fair to point out that the attacker can play anywhere across the final third, thus giving the Portuguese mastermind more tactical options at his disposal.
It all adds up to Sarr being a viable target for Tottenham this summer. However, it remains to be seen whether or not they can beat Liverpool and Manchester United in the pursuit of the Watford forward.
