Manchester United’s hopes of lifting a silverware this season are up as they faced defeat at the hands of Sevilla in their semi-final encounter in the Europa League. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men squandered a one-goal lead to lose the match by 2-1 to the La Liga team, which brought their stellar run in the competition to an end.
The Red Devils took the lead via a penalty by Bruno Fernandes after Marcus Rashford was brought down in the box in the 9th minute. Sevilla, however, kept pushing for the equaliser and got their reward in the 26th minute of the match as Suso shot past David De Gea. Luke De Jong scored the winning goal for the Spanish side in the 78th minute as he tapped in from close range completely unchallenged and sealed a place for Julen Lopetegui’s team in the final of the competition.
Here is how the Manchester United players are rated from their loss against Sevilla
David De Gea 5
Made some good saves in the match. However, did not look confident while handling the ball on most occasions and could have done better to prevent the first goal.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka 6
Made some good runs into the opposition half but lacked the finishing. His defending was not up to the mark.
Victor Lindelof 4
Looked shaky on several occasions. Should have done better with his positioning to prevent De Jong from scoring the second goal.
Harry Maguire 6.5
Did his best to keep the Sevilla attackers at bay. Should have had more support from his teammates.
Brendan Williams 5
Was outplayed on most occasions by Munir and Suso. Made some good challenges though.
Fred 6
Looked good in the first half but became fatigued as the match progressed.
Paul Pogba 5
Lost the ball on a number of occasions in the middle of the pitch. Misplaced several passes as well.
Bruno Fernandes 8
Continued with his stellar form this season and slotted the ball perfectly to get his side in the lead from the spot. Will be gutted with the defensive efforts of his teammates for sure.
Marcus Rashford 5
Looked good on occasions but was mostly kept quiet throughout the match by the Sevilla defence. Was brought down in the box to win the penalty for his side.
Mason Greenwood 5
A disappointing outing for the youngster, to say the least.
Anthony Martial 5.5
A few bright sparks throughout the match as he let a few chances go begging. Has to work on his finishing.
