The Scottish Sun has recently reported that Everton are locked in a three-way battle for PSV Eindhoven centre-forward Joel Piroe in this off-season. It has also been revealed that the Toffees might have to fight it out with Juventus and St. Mirren in pursuit of the Dutch youngster this summer. The Merseyside outfit seems to be keeping tabs on his progress in the Eredivisie ahead of a potential move during this summer transfer period (via The Scottish Sun).
Piroe’s Impressive Loan Spell At Rotterdam
Piroe enjoyed a fruitful loan spell with Sparta Rotterdam last season where he put in a string of eye-catching displays as the focal point of Henk Fraser’s attack. He had managed to find the back of the net twice in 18 league appearances for the Dutch outfit in the previous campaign which goes to show that he is improving his game at the top level.
The 21-year-old deserves a lot of credit for representing the Netherlands at various youth levels. He is currently an integral member of his country’s Under-20 side having featured in four games while scoring one goal for them so far.
His recent emergence in the Dutch Eredivisie has been a delight to watch which has enhanced his reputation across Europe. Therefore, the Toffees will do well to win the chase for his signature before the start of the new season.
What Are The Dutch Youngster’s Best Attributes?
Piroe has incredible upper-body strength that enables him to challenge and win a lot of 50-50 aerial duels with the opposition defenders up top. When playing with confidence, the Dutch starlet can be an ideal target man for his teammates in the final third and has also begun to score a few goals in the Dutch top-flight which proves that the player is improving himself with each season.
Is Piroe The Right Fit For Ancelotti’s Team?
Piroe is still quite raw and would need time to develop himself into a well-respected goal-getter in European football someday. Hence, Carlo Ancelotti should consider making a move to bring him to Goodison Park so that he can bolster his attacking options before the start of the new season next month.
The Toffees have currently got Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin as their first-choice strikers while both Moise Kean and Anthony Gordon provides cover for them on the bench. Maybe adding someone as talented as Piroe could push all of them to get better with each year which could be what Ancelotti wants at Merseyside in the coming seasons.
At 21, the Dutch prospect still has plenty of time to develop into a world-class goal-scorer. He could benefit from a switch to the north-west of England this summer as an experienced manager like Ancelotti will be the ideal man to oversee his development in the years to come. All in all, Piroe will be a decent fit for the Toffees, but only if he is available for a bargain fee in this off-season.
