According to Bild, Werder Bremen are reportedly interested in Tahith Chong. The Bundesliga outfit are looking to sign the Manchester United winger on a loan deal, with the player himself struggling to make a mark at Old Trafford. Bremen’s sporting director Frank Baumann even held a meeting with Chong’s representative on Tuesday, and the switch could be imminent.
Does Tahith Chong have a future at Manchester United?
Manchester United have done extremely well to emphasise on their youth development following the arrival of Ole-Gunnar Solsjaer. While players like Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Brandon Williams have made quite an impact, there have been players who have struggled in doing so, with Chong being one of them.
After being promoted to the senior side last summer, the youngster has made only three Premier League appearances this past season. That record is unlikely to improve any time soon, despite the departure of Alexis Sanchez, who joined Inter Milan for free this week.
Indeed, United, it seems, have already built a solid offensive combination in the shape of Greenwood, Rashford and Anthony Martial. Bruno Fernandes has provided the creative spark in the number ten while the likes of Daniel James and Jesse Lingard are also options. Additionally, they have been strongly linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.
As a matter of fact, Chong’s departure to Werder Bremen on loan could bode well for the club as it could open up a bit of space in the offensive unit, thus allowing the Red Devils to hunt for new players in the market.
Can Tahith Chong flourish in the Bundesliga?
Over the past few years, a host of Premier League players have found success by moving to the Bundesliga. Sancho, for one, is the ideal example while the likes of Jonjoe Kenny, Ademola Lookman and Zack Steffen haven’t done a bad job either.
As for Chong, he could certainly become an essential part of Bremen, especially following the expected departure of Milot Rashica. The star winger has been linked with a move to Wolves, a transfer that should allow Chong to gain a prominent role in the first-team.
Indeed, the Dutchman could be a like for like replacement for Raschica. Plus, the offensive combination between him, Josh Sargent and Yuya Osako could be a step in the right director for a Werder side that is looking to bounce back from a disastrous campaign in the Bundesliga.
