In a recent report, AS has provided an update on Real Madrid‘s pursuit of Stade Rennais midfielder Eduardo Camavinga this summer. The same source has also claimed that the French youngster could be available for €50m. Still, Los Blancos can expect to face competition from Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain in pursuit of his services during the summer transfer period.
Camavinga’s Excellent Campaign At Roazhon Park
The 17-year-old has established himself as one of the most gifted teenagers in European football. His all-round performances in Julien Stéphan’s midfield have been a joy to watch before the Ligue 1 season came to a premature end because of the COVID-19 crisis.
The French whizkid has produced a series of dominant displays at Roazhon Park, scoring one goal and providing two assists in 36 appearances for the French team across all competitions. Camavinga is primarily a defensive midfielder but has done well to get himself involved a few times for Rennais in the final third.
The promising teenager deserves some praise for his excellent defensive contributions after averaging 4.2 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 1.3 clearances per game in the Ligue 1 last season (stats via whoscored). His stats showcase why he is so highly-rated in European football, so Los Blancos will do well to lure him to the Spanish capital this summer.
In 2019, Camavinga earned his first appearance for the French Under-21 side in what was an important UEFA European U-21 Championship qualifier versus Georgia. However, he is yet to secure a senior cap for Didier Deschamps’ side, so a move to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium could give him the platform to break out as a first-team starter for France at the international stage in the coming years.
What Will The French Youngster Bring To The Table?
Camavinga can make full use of his pace to cover a lot of ground at the centre of the park. He is not shy of working hard to make some vital recovering runs inside his half and is usually a composed defensive presence at the back. The French starlet can also pull off a few powerful driving runs with the ball from midfield.
The teen sensation has also been excellent with his ball-distribution after completing 87.7% of his attempted passes in the French top-flight last season (stats via whoscored). He can also read the danger quickly that enables him to make some crucial interceptions and last-gasp clearances for his team.
Should Los Blancos Make A Move For Camavinga?
At the moment, Real Madrid will struggle to come up with the funds to arrange a move for Camavinga this summer. However, Zinedine Zidane should consider recruiting him in the future, especially if he can maintain his high standards in the upcoming campaign. The Frenchman will not only add more defensive protection to Zidane’s first-team but also improve the overall depth of his squad at the Spanish capital.
