Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to extend their winning run to three games in the Premier League when they host Leicester City on Sunday. The Lilywhites are coming on the back of two back to back wins over Arsenal and Newcastle United and with just two games remaining, they still do have a chance of finishing inside top six.
Leicester City, meanwhile, could run the risk of being overtaken by Manchester United if they fail to seal all three points in this encounter. The Foxes did secure a 2-0 win over Sheffield United in their last game but haven’t exactly fared well since the restart.
Tottenham Hotspur Vs Leicester City Tactical Preview
Talking Tactics
Tottenham Hotspur
Jose Mourinho is expected to persist with his tried and tested 4-2-3-1 setup. His side will be hoping to frustrate Leicester City with their strategic defending while relying on the pace and expertise of players like Steven Bergwijn, Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min on the counter.
Leicester City
Brendan Rodgers is also likely to start with a 4-1-4-1, with Wilfred Ndidi operating as the lone holding midfielder. The Foxes will primarily be looking to create chances from the wider areas of the pitch, especially in the absence of star playmaker James Maddison. But, they will also be aware of Tottenham’s superb counter-attacking prowess.
Team News
Tottenham Hotspur
Mourinho won’t have to deal with any fresh injuries heading into the game. However, the Portuguese mastermind will once again miss out on the services of Eric Dier due to suspension while Serge Aurier has been cleared for a break, following the death of his brother. There is a chance that Dele Alli may return to the pitch on Sunday, but he is not a guaranteed starter.
Predicted Tottenham Lineup: Lloris; Gedson, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Davies; Sissoko, Winks; Bergwijn, Lo Celso, Son; Kane.
Leicester City
Maddison is not the only key player ruled out for Leicester City in these last two matches as defender Caglar Soyuncus is also serving a three-game suspension. Christian Fuchs also picked up a fresh injury against Sheffield United, joining Ben Chilwell and Ricardo Pereira in the club’s long list of absentees.
Predicted Leicester City Lineup: Schmeichel; Justin, Bennett, Evans, Thomas; Ndidi; Ayoze Perez, Tielemans, Praet, Barnes; Vardy.
Key Men
Tottenham Hotspur
Harry Kane is slowly starting to return to his old form, having notably scored a brace in the win over Newcastle United. The English international is undoubtedly the biggest threat to the opposition. His goal poaching abilities combined with his seemingly telepathic understanding with Son could cause problems for the decimated defence of Leicester City.
Leicester City
Jamie Vardy is certainly the most important player for Leicester City in this fixture. Still, it will be interesting to see how youngster Luke Thomas manages to replace the injured Fuchs and Chilwell in the left-back slot this weekend. The young defender enjoyed a stunning debut against Sheffield United, but replicating that performance against Spurs could be a much tougher ask.
