According to a recent report by Defensa Central, Real Madrid have been offered a chance to land Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago for a fee between €30m to €35m this summer. However, the same source has also stated that Los Blancos have ruled out a move for the Spanish playmaker as Zinedine Zidane is not interested in acquiring his services in this off-season. It is believed that the Madrid giants have already got midfielders of a similar nature to Thiago. Hence, they have no immediate need to sign him during the summer transfer period (via Defensa Central).
Thiago’s Solid Season At The Allianz Arena
The 29-year-old has enjoyed another impressive season with the Bavarian giants after putting in a series of commanding displays at the heart of Hans-Dieter Flick’s midfield. He has participated in 36 matches for the German outfit this term, netting three goals and grabbing two assists in all competitions. Thiago has often been deployed as a holding midfielder which explains his low productivity in the final third.
The Spanish playmaker has done well to average 2.1 tackles, 2.1 interceptions, 0.5 clearances, 0.7 shots, 1.0 key passes and 2.6 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League this season. He has mostly been quite tidy when distributing the ball after completing 90.5% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Thiago has managed to earn 37 senior caps for the Spanish national team, registering two goals for his country in the process. If the Italy-born talent can maintain his good form in the upcoming campaign, then he should be guaranteed a place in Luis Enrique’s squad for next summer’s UEFA European Championship finals.
What Does The Spanish International Bring To The Table?
Thiago is a technically gifted footballer who has a wide range of passes in his locker. He is an excellent passer of the ball in midfield and can create some meaningful chances to score in the final third. The Spanish sensation can even strike the ball with a lot of power and precision, which makes him a potent goal-threat from long range. He is a serial winner and has already proven his worth at the highest level.
Does Zidane Need To Recruit Thiago This Summer?
Thiago has all the skillset required to be a success story at the Spanish capital. He is arguably good enough to secure a regular midfield berth in Zinedine Zidane’s first-team next season. However, Los Blancos are currently well-stocked in the midfield department. The likes of Toni Kroos, Casemiro, Luka Modric and Federico Valverde have been Zidane’s preferred choices to start this season while both James Rodriguez and Lucas Vázquez has provided depth on the bench.
The recent arrival of Reinier from Flamengo has also eased Zidane’s midfield concerns, so the Madrid boss has no real need of bringing Thiago to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium this summer. However, if Los Blancos are willing to cut off some of their midfield deadwood in the coming weeks, then they should consider revisiting the idea of making a move for Thiago in this off-season.
