According to a recent report by ESPN, Real Madrid are keeping tabs on the development of Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde. The same source has also stated that several top European clubs are monitoring the French youngster’s progress, so Los Blancos will have to move in quickly if they want to secure his services this summer.
Kounde’s Incredible Debut Campaign At The Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium
Kounde has enjoyed a brilliant debut season at Seville after putting in a run of consistent performances at the heart of Julen Lopetegui’s attack. He had participated in 36 matches for the Spanish outfit last season, netting two goals and providing one assist in all competitions.
On the defensive end, the French whizkid has averaged 0.8 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 3.0 clearances per game in La Liga over the past ten months. The 21-year-old has also been excellent with his ball-distribution after completing 85.9% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Kounde has represented France at the Under-20 level and has made one appearance for them so far. He played the full 90 minutes versus the United States U-20 side back in 2018 but has since struggled to earn more game time at the international stage.
What Will The Paris-born Talent Add To Zinedine Zidane’s Team?
Kounde is a moderately-paced centre-back who is often quick to sniff out the danger and doesn’t mind getting stuck in with a few tackles to help secure possession back for his side. He can also pull off some crucial last-ditch clearances at the back that make him such a valuable member of the Sevilla squad.
Should Los Blancos Get Kounde On Board This Summer?
Recruiting a defender of Kounde’s potential will undeniably be a shrewd move for Zinedine Zidane’s side in the long-run. He will not only add some stability and variety to the Madrid backline but also increase competition for places within their squad.
Kounde has also got what it takes to compete with Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane and Eder Militao for a regular spot in Zidane’s starting XI. At 21, the French starlet is only going to get better and better with each season, so the Madrid giants would need to be patient if they can successfully land him before the start of the new campaign.
With all things considered, Los Blancos should consider getting Kounde on board during the summer transfer window as he could help them consolidate their spot at the summit of Spanish football in the years to come.
