According to a recent exclusive interview by TalkSport, Ibrox legend Ally McCoist has tipped Rangers to cash in on Colombian sensation Alfredo Morelos this summer, if the right offer does arrive from any of his current suitors. A further report by FourFourTwo, quoting French TV channel RMC Sport, saw the president of Ligue 1 outfit Lille publicly confirming his club’s interest in acquiring the Rangers man in the coming days. Lille president Gerard Lopez said, “Morelos, it’s true that he’s a player that interests us. It’s also true that he is interested in LOSC. But we are in full discussion, nothing is done.”
Although Ally McCoist believes that Rangers will sell Alfredo Morelos to Lille for the right price, nothing is set in stone regarding the move at this point. Speaking to TalkSport, the former Ibrox star said, “I’ll be very disappointed if he leaves and Rangers don’t get a replacement and good money for him.
“Morelos has been excellent, excellent, in terms of his goal return for Rangers, particularly in Europe last season, some of his goals have been wonderful. I think Steven will accept an offer if it’s the correct offer, I really do. The reports talking about £20m… but I think if they get an offer of £12m or maybe £13m they would accept it.”
What Will Rangers’ Strike Situation Be If Morelos Departs?
Rangers’ current situation in the attacking areas is one to be concerned about, as Alfredo Morelos’ potential departure this summer has the capability to leave a gaping hole in Gerrard’s roster going into the next season. The Ibrox club’s other main option to lead the line is veteran English striker Jermain Defoe, who finds himself facing a hamstring injury with just days remaining for the commencement of the season. Greg Stewart offers Gerrard a rather unlikely third option to lead the line as well.
Given what’s going to be on the line in the Premiership next season, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Gers dip into the transfer market to try and find replacements. Glasgow Live has rounded up all the players that Gerrard’s side have been linked with this summer.

Three Alfredo Morelos Replacements For Rangers To Consider
Ivan Toney
The Peterborough striker had what can only be described as a sensational season in the League One last time out after his 32 fixtures for the club yielded a stellar return of 24 goals and six assists. Having averaged more than a telling goal contribution every time he stepped onto the pitch, the Gers’ interest is perhaps not overly surprising. The former Newcastle United man has spent the entirety of his league career in England, and he could hence be well-suited to the aggressive nature of Premiership football.
Kemar Roofe
The former Leeds United man currently plies his trade for Anderlecht in the Belgian top-flight, but the possibility of playing for a historic club like Rangers tends to be a point of attraction for even the biggest players in the world. The Jamaican international ace was a sensation for the Whites in the EFL Championship during the 18/19 league campaign, after which he was sold to Anderlecht in the summer. The forward hasn’t had the greatest of first seasons in Belgium, and the promise of regular European football under the guidance of a legendary personality like Steven Gerrard could be too much to pass up on.
Sekou Gassama
The Senegalese international striker plies his trade for Spanish side Real Valladolid and managed a decent return of nine goals from 23 appearances in La Liga 2 for his loan club Fuenlabrada. Standing at just under 1.9m tall, the 25-year-old would offer Gerrard’s side a very different sort of skill-set to all the ones that they currently possess. Not only is the former Valencia man rapid for a player of his stature, but he also tends to be a deadly finisher in the final third of the pitch.
