Newcastle United extended their winless run to five games in the Premier League, having been held by Brighton & Hove Albion to a scoreless draw. The draw sees the Seagulls secure their status in the top-flight while Newcastle continue to show their lack of impetus going forward.
Newcastle United Player Ratings Vs Brighton & Hove Albion
Martin Dubravka 7.5/10
Martin Dubravka made some key saves in the first half, which helped the scoreline remain goalless. A positive performance from him, in between the sticks this evening.
Javier Manquillo 6.5/10
Another disappointing performance from the Spaniard, who looked lacklustre on the ball and should have provided better creative outlet going forward.
Emil Krafth 7/10
Emil Krafth did look uncomfortable in the centre-back role. But the Swede did chip in with a few essential clearances and overall looked decent in his defensive game.
Federico Fernandez 7/10
Provided support to Krafth in the weird-looking three-man backline. He was the only viable centre-back in the side, so his experience and positioning were key to Newcastle retaining their clean sheet.
Danny Rose 7.5/10
An eventful game for Danny Rose, who often found himself on the wrong end of some rash tackles. The English international featured in a more central role, trying to provide inspiration going forward. But, he also made some excellent challenges and enjoyed a pretty decent afternoon.
Allan Saint-Maximin 6/10
Allan Saint-Maximin had a fairly disappointing evening by his lofty standards. While he was lively throughout the time he was on the pitch, the attacker lacked the end product and was ultimately replaced.
Jonjo Shelvey 6/10
It wasn’t the best of games for Jonjo Shelvey, who did try to provide the creative essence in the middle third of the pitch. But, the ex-Liverpool star struggled to impose his presence on the proceedings and orchestrate the game as freely as he would have liked.
Nabil Bentaleb 5.5/10
Nabil Bentaleb provided the defensive balance in midfield, sitting deep and clearing out a few loose balls.
Matt Ritchie 6/10
Matt Ritchie had a disastrous first-half, notably gifting Brighton an excellent opportunity to score. He was also booked, although the ex-Bournemouth starlet did provide some late inspiration with his crosses into the box.
Miguel Almiron 5/10
Not the best of performances from Miguel Almiron, who did show excellent work-ethic, but was often clueless with the ball at his feet. Lacked concentration, at times.
Dwight Gayle 6/10
A disastrous evening for Dwight Gayle, whose inability to create chances for himself or find spaces made Newcastle United very ineffective going forward. Does deserve some credit for his work-rate, though.
SUBSTITUTES
Andy Carroll 4/10
Added some much-needed physical presence in the Newcastle United attack after replacing Saint-Maximin during the final phase of the game. But, the ex-Liverpool missed a glorious opportunity to score late in the game, putting his header wide of the mark.
Joelinton 4/10
Strolled around the park and notably put a bit more weight to a pass that could otherwise have led to the best chance of the game for Newcastle United.
Valentino Lazaro N/A
A late replacement for the ineffective and tiring Almiron.
