Tottenham Hotspur faced off against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium earlier this evening hoping to pick up a victory on the road. Jose Mourinho’s players enjoyed more of the ball in the first half but struggled to make a breakthrough. Both teams went into the half-time break with nothing to split them.
The second 45 minutes was more of the same with the two teams pushing themselves in search of the decisive opening goal of the game. Eddie Howe’s men thought they scored the winner when Callum Wilson found the back of the net with an acrobatic finish. However, VAR correctly ruled the goal out as the ball struck the arm of Josh King before going into the empty net. The match ended with both teams sharing the spoils after playing out a scoreless draw.
Let’s take a look at how each Tottenham player fared during the match versus the Cherries.
GK: Hugo Lloris – 7.5/10
The French goalkeeper made a decent save to deny Junior Stanislas just before half-time. He also rescued his team a point by stopping Harry Wilson with a crucial stop right at the death. Lloris had to work for his clean sheet today.
RB: Serge Aurier – 6.5/10
The Spurs right-back was defensively reliable and did enough to keep Stanislas quiet. He was also responsible for making a few powerful runs down the right flank. Aurier has even managed to get in behind the Cherries defence on a couple of occasions but has nothing to show for his efforts.
CB: Toby Alderweireld – 7/10
The Belgian centre-back didn’t put a foot wrong at the back and did well to keep his clean sheet intact throughout the 90 minutes.
CB: Jan Vertonghen – 6/10
Vertonghen’s poor header almost cost his teammates a goal, but Lloris smartly saved Stanislas’ resulting strike. Other than that incident, Vertonghen had a decent game at the heart of Mourinho’s defence.
LB: Ben Davies – 6/10
Davies maintained a good shape in defence and made a vital clearance in the second half. However, offensively, he failed to create too many meaningful chances down the left flank.
CM: Moussa Sissoko – 6/10
The Spurs midfield ace worked his socks off at the centre of the park and managed to cover a lot of ground with his running. However, he lacked creativity in the opposition half.
CM: Harry Winks – 6/10
The English talent tried to help his team dominate the midfield battle, but lacked invention with his passes in the attacking third.
CM: Giovani Lo Celso – 5/10
He struggled to orchestrate anything of note in the final third and got replaced at half-time.
LW: Steven Bergwijn – 5/10
The Tottenham speedster failed to get himself involved in the first 45 minutes, so Mourinho decided to replace him at the halfway point of the match.
ST: Harry Kane – 5.5/10
The English centre-forward did well to set-up a couple of decent opportunities in the first 45 but failed to test Aaron Ramsdale during the game which will disappoint him.
RW: Erik Lamela – 5/10
The Argentine playmaker had a few bright moments in and around the opposition penalty area but was guilty of squandering a couple of decent goal-scoring chances.
Substitutes:
CM: Tanguy Ndombele – 6/10
He brought some freshness to the Spurs midfield and was not afraid to get stuck in with some tackles at the centre of the park.
LW: Heung-min Son – 5/10
The South Korean attacker was lacklustre in the attacking third after coming off the bench.
RW: Lucas Moura – 6/10
The Brazilian speedster caused a few headaches for the Bournemouth defenders but didn’t do enough to score.
RB: Gedson Fernandes – N/A
He hardly had any time to make an impact.
