According to Daily Star, Leeds United are interested in Fabian Delph and Danny Rose. The Premier League duo has been identified as potential targets for Marcelo Bielsa as he looks to strengthen his squad, following his side’s promotion to the English top flight. Both the players are expected to cost £5 million each, with the Whites ready to take advantage of their contractual situation.
Danny Rose: An unnecessary depth at left-back?
The left-back position has never really been a problem for Leeds United. Stuart Dallas has done an incredible job of providing both service and solidity in that position. His determination and fighting spirit, combined with his versatility have, in fact, made him a real asset for the Whites.
Also, Bielsa has the services of Barry Douglas, who is widely regarded as one of the most talented players in the side. Even Ezgjan Alioski can feature as a left-back, thus providing the Argentine mastermind with a wealth of options.
The acquisition of Rose, therefore, could add some unnecessary depth in the left-back role. Although it remains to be seen whether Douglas or Dallas can replicate their performances in the Premier League, it would perhaps be a better idea for the Whites to invest the money elsewhere.
Especially in the right-back unit, Bielsa has Luke Ayling as the only reliable option, with Dallas occasionally slotting in as an alternative. Making a move for a right-back, therefore, might be a wise option.
Fabian Delph: A leader in midfield
The addition of Delph could make sense for multiple reasons. Leeds United haven’t had problems in central midfield. But, they do lack depth in that position, with Kalvin Phillips being the only reliable option in the number six role.
Other options include Mateusz Klich and Jamie Shackleton, who lacks the experience at the highest level of football. Meanwhile, Pablo Hernandez is nearing the final phase of his career and shouldn’t be considered as an option. Delph, in that regard, should provide some much-needed boost in central midfield.
The ex-Aston Villa star can pair up with Phillips in the double-pivot, adding more substance and solidity in the middle of the park. But more importantly, his work ethic, leadership qualities and a positive attitude should complement Bielsa’s footballing philosophy. For a fee of just £5 million, Delph will be nothing less than a bargain for the Championship winners.
