According to a recent report by Calciomercato, Inter Milan are keeping a keen eye on Manchester United striker Anthony Martial this summer. The same source has also claimed that the French centre-forward could command a fee of at least €70m, so the only way for the San Siro outfit to lower his price would be to offer Milan Skriniar in return during the upcoming transfer window.
Martial’s Impressive Goal-Scoring Record At The Theatre Of Dreams This Season
Martial has enjoyed another impressive season at Old Trafford after producing several match-winning displays as the focal point of the Red Devils attack. He has banged in 21 goals and provided eight assists in 41 appearances for Man United this term across all competitions which highlight his growing influence in the final third.
The 24-year-old has found some consistency with his performances as well based on his average of 2.5 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per game in the Premier League and the UEFA Europa League this season (stats via whoscored).
Martial has also represented France in 18 senior matches while registering one goal for his country so far. He will have to maintain his high standards in the upcoming campaign to have a chance of being named in Didier Deschamps’ Les Bleus squad for next year’s UEFA European Championship finals.
What Are The French Striker’s Best Attributes?
Martial can use his pace and agility to make some well-timed runs in behind the opposition backline. He loves to play in and around the last line of the opposition defence and can score a wide range of goals in the final third. He has transformed himself into a prolific finisher at Old Trafford, but has sometimes been guilty of fading out of games mainly when he has been devoid of service up top. Even then, Martial’s clever movement and turn of pace make him a constant menace for the opposition defenders which explains why he is slowly becoming such a favourite among the Man United supporters.
Why Solskjaer Cannot Afford To Sanction Martial’s Departure This Summer
Even if Inter offer Skriniar as a makeweight for the Frenchman, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should strongly consider against such a deal. Martial is currently about to enter the prime years of his football career, so it is quite likely that he would develop himself into a world-class forward in the coming seasons.
Furthermore, the former Ligue 1 talent has already proven his worth as a prolific forward in England. He has formed a productive attacking partnership with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes which is why Man United are still in a good position to secure a top-four place this season. With all things considered, Solskjaer cannot afford to let Martial leave this summer. The Norwegian head coach would be foolish to do so as the player’s current valuation could potentially skyrocket based on his growth over the next few years.
