Everton will entertain Aston Villa at Goodison Park on Thursday evening as they look to secure a positive result at home. The Toffees suffered a disappointing 3-0 loss at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend. Therefore, Carlo Ancelotti would demand a positive response from his players when they host the Villans in midweek.
The Merseyside outfit will set themselves up in a 4-4-2 formation with Mason Holgate expected to return to Ancelotti’s starting XI in the absence of the injured Yerry Mina.
4-4-2 Everton Predicted Lineup To Face Aston Villa
Defence
Jordan Pickford will continue to feature in goal for the Toffees despite shipping in three goals versus Wolves last weekend. Yerry Mina is injured again, so Mason Holgate could replace him if he can manage to recover in time for this midweek game against Dean Smith’s men. The English defender will lineup alongside Michael Keane at the heart of the Everton backline as they try to neutralise the threat of Aston Villa’s Mbwana Samatta on Thursday.
Seamus Coleman could get the nod to operate at right-back while Lucas Digne tries to produce another productive display on the other side as the left-back. Ancelotti would want both his full-backs to push high up the field so that they can provide some decent service to the front players.
Midfield
Andre Gomes is a slight doubt for this game but should return to play along with Tom Davies at the centre of the park. Both of them will focus on dominating the midfield battle so that they can orchestrate some decent openings in the final third. Gylfi Sigurdsson will be available for selection on the bench.
Anthony Gordon should keep his place as a left-sided wide player while Djibril Sidibé looks to impress as a makeshift winger on the right. They will both have to figure out a way to get in behind the Villa defence and whip in some inviting crosses into the opposition penalty box.
Attack
Richarlison will share most of the goal-scoring burden with Dominic Calvert-Lewin up top. The Brazilian attacker will once again be Ancelotti’s best source for a goal in midweek. Moise Kean will have to be content with a place on the bench but might get a chance to shine in the second 45 minutes if Ancelotti decides to call upon his services.
