Everton will play hosts to Southampton at Goodison Park on Thursday afternoon hoping to secure all three points at home. The Toffees suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur last night, so they would be desperate to bounce back when the Saints visit the blue half of Merseyside later this week. However, it won’t be easy for them as the South coast outfit are in a decent run of form after securing a well-deserved 1-0 victory versus Manchester City last weekend.
Carlo Ancelotti will stick with his preferred 4-4-2 formation and could be forced to bring Yerry Mina back to his starting XI for this upcoming clash in the Premier League.
4-4-2 Everton Predicted Lineup To Face Southampton
Defence
Jordan Pickford will keep his place in between the sticks for the Merseyside outfit despite failing to earn a clean sheet in each of his past two appearances in the league. Mason Holgate is a significant doubt for this game after he has picked up a knock versus Spurs in the last game. Therefore, we can expect to see Yerry Mina to lineup alongside Michael Keane at the heart of Ancelotti’s defence as they look to restrict the Saints from scoring in midweek.
Seamus Coleman could get the nod to start at right-back while Lucas Digne hopes to produce a productive display as the left-back. Ancelotti will instruct both of them to get involved in the attacking third so that they can create a few decent openings going forward.
Midfield
Andre Gomes will be guaranteed a midfield place alongside Gylfi Sigurdsson as they try to give a good account of themselves at the centre of the park. Anthony Gordon might get another opportunity to impress as a left-sided wide player. Bernard could get the responsibility to orchestrate some clean-cut chances to score from the right flank.
Alex Iwobi is also a significant doubt for this game and will be in a race against time to make himself available for selection. However, Fabian Delph and Beni Baningime should both be fit enough to start on Ancelotti’s bench.
Attack
Richarlison will once again share the goal-scoring workload with Dominic Calvert-Lewin up top. The dynamic duo will be desperate to get their names on the scoresheet, so we can expect them to cause a few headaches for the Saints defenders in midweek.
Moise Kean will have to be content with a spot on the bench but might get a chance to impress as an impact substitute if Everton require a goal late in the game.
