Manchester United entertained West Ham United at Old Trafford earlier this evening hoping to pick up maximum points at home. The Red Devils made a bright start to the game, but failed to breakdown the Hammers defence. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men conceded a cheap penalty when Paul Pogba handled the ball just before the half-time break. Michail Antonio converted the penalty with ease to put the away side ahead at half-time.
Mason Greenwood levelled the scoreline just six minutes into the second half when he found the back of the net with a fine finish. Both teams fought tooth and nail to secure the three points but ended up sharing the spoils after playing out a 1-1 draw at the Theatre of Dreams.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player fared during the match against the Hammers.
GK: David De Gea – 6/10
The Spaniard couldn’t do much about Antonio’s penalty, but made one great save to deny Jarrod Bowen in the second half.
RB: Timothy Fosu-Mensah – 4/10
He was a bit all over the place in the first 45 minutes and got subbed at half-time.
CB: Victor Lindelöf – 5.5/10
It was a lacklustre display from him today. He struggled to cope with Antonio’s movement in what turned out to be a tough outing.
CB: Harry Maguire – 6/10
He did enough to restrict the Hammers from scoring in the second half, but it was a far from a convincing performance on the defensive end of the field.
LB: Brandon Williams – 6/10
He was bright and vibrant going forward but looked a bit vulnerable defensively at left-back.
CM: Paul Pogba – 3/10
The French midfielder struggled to get into the game and conceded a penalty for a poor handball in the dying embers of the first half.
CM: Nemanja Matic – 5/10
The Serbian retained possession well in midfield, but lacked the cutting edge with his passes in the opposition half.
RW: Mason Greenwood – 7/10
The English starlet came up with a moment of magic when he scored with a powerful finish to salvage a point for his team.
CAM: Bruno Fernandes – 5/10
The Portuguese playmaker tried to create things but was mostly left frustrated in the final third.
LW: Marcus Rashford – 5/10
The English attacker tested Łukasz Fabiański with a stinging effort but failed to create any meaningful chances in the attacking third.
ST: Anthony Martial – 6.5/10
The French striker played a crucial part in orchestrating Greenwood’s goal in the second half. However, he will be disappointed for not having scored one himself.
Substitutes:
RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6/10
He kept a good shape at the back.
ST: Odion Ighalo – 5/10
The Nigerian forward squandered a glorious opportunity to score.
