Premiership heavyweights Rangers finished their second French pre-season friendly against Nice, in the same manner they finished their first one – with a comfortable 2-0 victory. Steven Gerrard started the game with Jermain Defoe playing as the main striking option ahead of Colombian international Alfredo Morelos. Although that might’ve raised some question marks, it was the Englishman that scored the Gers’ opener in the fixture. Ryan Kent came extremely close to finding the net as well, but it took a neat finish from second-half substitute Jamie Barjonas in the dying moments to secure a 2-0 win tonight.
Here Are The Rangers Player Ratings Vs Nice:
Rangers Player Ratings Vs Nice
Allan McGregor – 7
The veteran stopper wasn’t called into action on too many occasions as he was fairly well protected by his dominant back-line. Was required to make a couple of smart saves in the second half though.
James Tavernier – 6.5
The full-back didn’t have the most influential of outings tonight as a majority of the Rangers attacks occurred down the middle of the pitch. Didn’t overlap quite as much as he usually would.
Connor Goldson – 7
The big centre-half was solid for the most part as he produced a couple of decent moments in one-on-one situations. Marked his man well from set-pieces and moved the ball around quickly.
George Edmundson – 8.5
The youngster was nothing short of a wall at the back for Gerrard’s side tonight as he didn’t allow the Nice forwards any space to run into. Dominated any aerial approaches into the Rangers box too.
Borna Barisic – 6.5
Like his partner on the other flank, the Croatian wasn’t required to bombard forward as much as usual. Was caught out defensively on a couple of occasions but did a decent enough job overall.
Glen Kamara – 6.5
The youngster put in a reliable performance in the Rangers engine room tonight as most of the attacks went through him. Showed the confidence required to step up and find a pass, and defended well too.
Ryan Jack – 6.5
The midfielder offered Gerrard’s team a solid presence right in front of the back-line. He guarded the defenders well, made multiple interceptions, and linked up expertly with the Gers’ attackers as well.
Joe Aribo – 7.5
The youngster put in a much better performance tonight when compared to the one against Lyon, as it was his tackle near the halfway line that led to the Jermain Defoe opened in the first half.
Ianis Hagi – 6.5
The Romanian wasn’t at his best tonight as he didn’t actually have too many touches of the ball in the first half. Picked up some good positions but without producing many moments of quality.
Ryan Kent – 7.5
The speedster showed amazing composure to keep possession of the ball for as long as he did before releasing the assist for the Defoe goal. Used his pace and energy to provide a constant option.
Jermain Defoe – 7
The English veteran was presented with a golden chance that he missed in the opening knockings of the game, but more than made up for it by slotting home the second opportunity he got in great style.
Substitutes
Calvin Bassey – 6
The speedster tried to get forward a lot more than the man he replaced in the side after coming on. Made some positive advances but did get caught out at the back a few times.
Alfredo Morelos – 6
The Colombian didn’t have the impact he might’ve been hoping for in the final third of the pitch. Picked up an excellent position in front of the Nice goal but the pass never arrived from Murphy.
Steven Davis – 6
The veteran midfielder sat in front of the Gers’ back-line and protected them efficiently after coming on. Decent on the ball and played a couple of impressive forward passes too.
Scott Arfield – 6
The midfielder was composed on the ball in the core of the team tonight as he linked up play pretty effectively in the late stages. Produced some neat passes and worked hard tracking back as well.
Jamie Murphy – 5.5
The second-half substitute didn’t look overly comfortable after coming on as he misplaced a couple of easy passes. Wasted a glorious chance where a simple look up would’ve led to a certain goal.
Jamie Barjonas – NA
Scored the late goal for the Ibrox club but didn’t have time to make too much of an impact.
