Manchester City clashed heads with Arsenal at Wembley Stadium earlier this evening hoping to win and progress into the final of the FA Cup. The Citizens made a dominant start to the match but conceded a goal in the 19th minute when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored from close range. The Gunners hung on to their narrow advantage and went into the half-time break one goal to the good.
The Mancunian giants ramped up the pressure in the second 45 minutes but struggled to find the all-important equaliser. In the 71st minute, Arsenal’s Aubameyang once again broke away and killed the game off with another excellent finish from close range. The contest ended with the North London outfit claiming a 2-0 victory over Pep Guardiola’s men.
Let’s take a look at how each Man City player fared during the match against the Gunners.
GK: Ederson – 6/10
The Brazilian keeper made a vital save to deny Shkodran Mustafi but will be disappointed for conceding two goals today.
RB: Kyle Walker – 4/10
The English full-back had a torrid time dealing with Aubameyang’s threat and produced a lacklustre display in the opposition half.
CB: Eric Garcia – 5/10
He was a bit untidy when defending inside his own half but made a few decent interceptions at the heart of Guardiola’s defence.
CB: Aymeric Laporte – 6/10
He did well to cope with Alexandre Lacazette’s threat and produced a decent display going forward.
LB: Benjamin Mendy – 5.5/10
The French full-back had some bright moments down the left flank but looked vulnerable defensively throughout the 90 minutes.
CM: David Silva – 6.5/10
The Spanish maestro struggled to get into the game in the first 45 but produced a much-improved display in the second half.
CM: Ilkay Gundogan – 5/10
The German gave a good account of himself early in the game, but his impact on the field faded after the half-time break.
CM: Kevin De Bruyne – 6/10
The Belgian international was a constant menace for the Gunners and was Man City’s best hope for a goal this evening. However, he failed to make a telling contribution in the final third.
RW: Riyad Mahrez – 4/10
The Algerian lacked conviction in the attacking third and got subbed after the hour mark. It was not a memorable performance from him today.
ST: Gabriel Jesus – 5/10
The Brazilian striker put in another tireless shift down the middle but never looked like he had a goal in him.
LW: Raheem Sterling – 4/10
The English speedster got plenty of chances to score but was toothless in the final third. Overall, it was mostly a frustrating outing for Sterling at Wembley earlier this evening.
Substitutes:
CM: Rodri – 6/10
He added some legs in midfield.
CAM: Phil Foden – 6/10
The English winger had a few bright moments in and around the Gunners penalty box but failed to make a meaningful contribution up top.
CM: Fernandinho – N/A
He hardly had any time to make an impact.
