Real Madrid have further strengthened their grip on the La Liga title with a clinical victory against Getafe at the Alfredo de Stefano Stadium in Madrid. Los Blancos have now gone 4 points clear of rivals, Barcelona, in the title race with just five matchdays remaining.
Sergio Ramos converted from the penalty spot after his defensive partner, Dani Carvajal, won him a penalty in the 79th minute. Real Madrid displayed defensive solidity, and Courtois registered his 16th clean sheet of the season in tonight’s win.
Getafe started the game strongly and kept Madrid on the backfoot. However, Bordalas’ side failed to convert their chances into goals and were punished for that later in the game. A string of changes made by Zidane in the second half turned the game on its head.
The away side seemed tired and drained, and the arrival of Asensio, Rodrygo and Valverde, only made Getafe’s night seem longer. The trio had an electrifying effect on the game as they started to carve out openings and create chances. Here’s how Real Madrid players were rated in their victory against Getafe.
Thibaut Courtois – 9/10
The Belgian was right on top of his game and denied Getafe a goal on a couple of occasions. Courtois was one of the best performers on the night.
Dani Carvajal – 9/10
A crucial performance from Carvajal became the decisive factor in the game. Apart from being rigid in defence, Carvajal also won Los Blancos a penalty after a brilliant run down the right flank.
Raphael Varane – 7/10
The defender’s evening was cut short by an injury. After being involved in a clash of heads, Varane continued to play on for a few minutes before being taken off during the cooling break in the first half. It looked like a precautionary move from Zidane and nothing more.
Sergio Ramos – 9/10
Sergio Ramos never fails to disappoint. The captain scored from the penalty spot in the 79th minute which was won by Dani Carvajal. In defence, Ramos had a perfect evening as everything he touched turned to gold.
Ferland Mendy – 8/10
Ferland Mendy had a fantastic return to the starting eleven as he displayed his solidity in the defence. The full-back toiled hard throughout the game and kept the Getafe attack at bay.
Luka Modric – 7/10
The Croatian did not have an evening that did justice to his standards. Modric looked off the pace during the game and was taken off in the second half.
Casemiro – 9/10
The Brazilian was extremely reliable as always and acted as a firewall between Madrid’s defence and Getafe’s attack. Casemiro barely kept a foot wrong the entire evening and was amongst the most fouled players on the night.
Toni Kroos – 8/10
The German was calm and composed as always. Kroos dictated the speed of the game with his efficient feet and mind.
Isco – 7/10
The midfielder had a satisfactory evening at the Alfredo de Stefano. Much more was expected of Isco in this intense fixture which he failed to deliver.
Karim Benzema – 7/10
Despite putting in a spirited performance, it was by far not a typical Benzema performance. The striker failed to put the ball past Getafe’s goalie, Soria.
Vinicius Junior – 7/10
The Brazillian looked a bit off-colour and was taken off in the second half. Vinicius had a sumptuous chance in the first half which he failed to score from.
Substitutes
Eder Militao – 8/10
Apart from picking up a yellow card, Militao gave a rock-solid performance. Militao replaced Varane around the 35-minute mark.
Marco Asensio – 8/10
Marco came on and increased the speed of the game and also created openings for Zidane’s side.
Federico Valverde – 8/10
The dynamic midfielder brought on lots of energy as soon as he stepped on the field and made life difficult for a tired Getafe side.
Rodrygo – 8/10
The teenager turned it on as soon as he was brought on. Rodrygo made a couple of runs that left the away side’s defence hapless.
Mariano – 6/10
Mariano was introduced in the dying moments and did not have much involvement in the game.
