According to Le10Sport, Bayern Munich are keeping tabs on Tiemoue Bakayoko. The Chelsea midfielder is one of two Premier League midfielders, along with Tottenham Hotspur’s Tanguy Ndombele that Bayern have identified in their bid to add more reinforcements in the middle of the park. The report states that Chelsea are willing to listen to offers for Bakayoko, who is being valued at around €35 million.
Tiemoue Bakayoko’s revival at AS Monaco
Bakayoko initially moved to AS Monaco last summer, in a season-long loan deal following his struggles at Chelsea. He enjoyed a decent campaign as well, upon his return to Ligue 1, notably becoming a first-team regular for Monaco.
Indeed, the midfielder made 20 league appearances in this past Ligue 1 season. While the likes of Aleksandr Golovin and Cesc Fabregas provided the creative essence, it was Bakayoko’s physical prowess and ball-winning capability that added a new dimension and more balance to the Monaco midfield.
The 25-year-old notably attempted an impressive 3.7 tackles per game as well as 1.5 interceptions. He also attained a success rate of 68% in terms of aerial duels and a pass completion rate of 86%. Hence, Bakayoko’s contributions in the middle of the park played a crucial role in helping Monaco finish in the top half of the table.
Does Bakayoko have any future at Chelsea?
Bakayoko has returned to Stamford Bridge this summer, following the end of his loan spell at Monaco. But despite his impressive performances in Ligue 1, he is unlikely to dethrone the likes of N’Golo Kante and Jorginho in the Chelsea first-team. It seems his style of play is not really favoured by Frank Lampard, who prefers a more technical attacking approach to his tactical philosophy.
Nevertheless, Bakayoko is sure to attract interest from clubs across Europe, although the midfielder himself favours a move to either AC Milan or Paris Saint-Germain. His current contract expires in 2022, meaning it could be an excellent time for Chelsea to cash in on the Frenchman.
How does Bakayoko fit in at Bayern?
As far as Bayern Munich are concerned, they could certainly use someone like Bakayoko in their ranks. The Bavarians haven’t had much luck with the signings of the French midfield duo of Mickael Cuisance and Corentin Tolisso, and it won’t be surprising to see both the players leaving Allianz Arena in the summer.
Meanwhile, Javi Martinez is nearing the final phase of his career, thus making Bakayoko a viable target for Bayern. The Chelsea star can be an ideal replacement for the Spaniard and can offer Hansi Flick with some much-needed depth in the middle of the park.
Especially in the number six role, Bakayoko can be an excellent alternative to Joshua Kimmich, thus allowing more tactical possibilities for the Bavarians as they look to continue their dominance in the Bundesliga next season.
