Chelsea will face off against Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday evening hoping to pick up a positive result away from home. The Blues managed to secure a comfortable 3-1 win over Manchester United in the FA Cup semifinals last weekend which would give them a lot of confidence heading into this midweek showdown versus the Reds.
Frank Lampard could choose to go with a 4-3-3 formation and is expected to name Ross Barkley back in his first-team for this league clash away at Merseyside. The West London giants will look to soak in all the pressure and threaten the home team on the counter.
4-3-3 Chelsea Predicted Lineup To Face Liverpool
Defence
Kepa Arrizabalaga will lineup in goal for the Blues after being rested in the win over the Red Devils in the FA Cup last weekend. Kurt Zouma will operate alongside Antonio Rudiger at the heart of Lampard’s defence as they try to produce a solid performance while up against Jurgen Klopp’s incredibly dangerous front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.
Reece James might get the nod to start at right-back while Cesar Azpilicueta looks to put in another industrious performance as the left-back. Both Chelsea full-backs can expect a tough defensive test while up against the pacey Liverpool attackers in midweek.
Midfield
Lampard could opt for a midfield three of Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante and Ross Barkley as they try to cope with the high Liverpool press and create a few decent openings going forward. Both Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic might have to settle for a spot on the bench as they await their chance to influence the game in the second half if required.
Attack
Christian Pulisic and Willian will focus on stretching the pitch out on the wide areas. The dynamic duo will have to find a way to provide some decent service for Olivier Giroud, who will lead the line for the Blues up top. The French centre-forward managed to find the back of the net versus the Red Devils which would give him a confidence boost going into this contest at Anfield.
Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi will be available for selection on Lampard’s bench. They could be introduced as the impact substitutes if Chelsea require a goal in the second half.
