Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side picked up another impressive 2-0 pre-season victory over newly-promoted EFL Championship club Coventry City tonight. The Ibrox side’s preparations towards the upcoming Premiership season continued decently with the Gers displaying a reasonably dominant performance in the second half. Despite a few horror moments where the away team caught them on the counter, the Scottish outfit were able to see out the win thanks to goals from Joe Aribo and Connor Goldson.
Here Are The Rangers Player Ratings Vs Coventry City:
Rangers Player Ratings Vs Coventry City
Allan McGregor – 6.5
The veteran stopper looked quite sharp in between the sticks as he dealt with a couple of Coventry counters effectively. Tried to release the ball quickly and made some smart saves.
James Tavernier – 6.5
The skipper played a couple of excellent crosses into the box over the course of the ninety, but he wasn’t able to have too much of an impact. Forced to track back by the Coventry breaks also.
George Edmundson – 7
The big centre-half was solid at the heart of defence as he made multiple important clearances and tackles to keep the Coventry forwards at bay. Moved the ball around with confidence as well.
Connor Goldson – 7
There were a couple of instances in the tie where Goldson needed to be stronger with the challenge, but other than that, did a decent enough job. Took his headed second-half goal in composed fashion.
Borna Barisic – 6.5
The speedster tried to get forward on every possible opportunity but wasn’t able to create the desired impact in the final third. Spent a majority of the fixture in the Coventry half of the pitch though.
Ryan Jack – 7
Gers’ midfield anchor linked up play very efficiently from his position in the engine room tonight as he sprung good passes all over the pitch. Had a good goal attempt deflected just wide too.
Glen Kamara – 6.5
The midfielder moved the ball around with great intent and made multiple sharp turns over the ninety as well. Played some good forward passes but needs to impose himself on the game more.
Joe Aribo – 8
The Nigerian international midfielder was deployed in a slightly more advanced role by Gerrard tonight. Made some important runs in attack and did exceptionally well to open the scoring in the second half.
Ianis Hagi – 7.5
The Romanian trickster looked dangerous every time he got on the ball tonight as he linked up with the other attackers effectively as well. Had a couple of decent chances but couldn’t quite find the net.
Ryan Kent – 7
The speedster had an extremely subdued first-half performance when compared to his usual standards. Improved his game in the second half by working harder and moving the ball around a lot quicker.
Alfredo Morelos – 6
The Colombian picked up some excellent positions in the second period but wasted multiple clear chances. Did well to flick the ball into Aribo’s path for the Gers’ opening goal tonight though.
