Borussia Dortmund are once again expected to undergo a busy transfer window despite the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic handing them a net loss of €45 million. To make up for the losses, the club is likely to listen to offers for some of their key players. So in this article, we will talk about three Borussia Dortmund players PL clubs should target this summer.
Mahmoud Dahoud
Mahmoud Dahoud is one of the players who has found life difficult at BVB following the arrival of Lucien Favre. The Swiss mastermind has barely been used the ex-Gladbach midfielder, who initially joined the club back in 2017. This season, for example, he has featured in only 556 minutes of league football.
Despite his struggles, Dahoud is still more than capable of plying his trade in the Premier League. In fact, he is among one of the most gifted midfielders in the BVB squad right now, boasting immense technical prowess that combines well with his tenacity and offensive capabilities.
Dahoud’s chance creation and technical abilities make him quite similar to Arsenal’s Dani Ceballos. The German can be an ideal signing for clubs like Everton or even West Ham United as they look for creative reinforcements in the summer.
Mario Gotze
Mario Gotze would not technically be a Borussia Dortmund player this summer because the club chose to deny a contract extension and for obvious reasons as the German international has really struggled in his second spell in the Ruhrpott.
Under Favre, Gotze was often frozen out of the starting eleven. As a result, he featured in 514 minutes of league football this past season, even less than Dahoud.
What makes Gotze such an appealing target for Premier League clubs is that he is available for free this summer. Also, the playmaker has a bunch of experience at the highest level of football and has won a lot of silverware throughout his footballing career.
Arsenal, for one, could certainly use someone like him in their ranks considering the downfall of his compatriot, Ozil. Even Manchester United should consider signing Gotze as a potential alternative to Bruno Fernandes while at Liverpool, the midfielder will get the opportunity to reunite with his former boss, Jurgen Klopp.
Andre Schurrle
Andre Schurrle is undoubtedly not one of Germany’s best attackers anymore. He has a gone through a massive downfall over the past couple of years, especially since joining Borussia Dortmund in 2016. The attacker has returned to BVB in the summer, from his loan spell at Spartak Moscow. And recently, his contract has been terminated by the club.
Although the German has made minimal impact in the Russian Premier League, he often tends to impress in English football, where his direct style of football is ideally suited. It was evident in his performances at Chelsea and Fulham, where he spent the 2018/19 campaign on loan, scoring six goals in 24 matches.
Schurrle could be an exciting option for clubs like Crystal Palace, Brighton & Hove Albion or even Leeds United, who are on the verge of returning to the Premier League next season. His lucid attacking style, as well as sheer commitment and determination, should make him a tailor-made fit for Marcelo Bielsa’s tactical philosophy at Elland Road.
