According to AS, Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs chasing Pervis Estupian. The Watford left-back, who is currently on loan at CA Osasuna, has impressed the onlookers with his consistent performances in the La Liga. As a result, he is courted by a host of top clubs across Europe, including Tottenham, Manchester United and Atletico Madrid. Estupian’s current loan deal at Osasuna expires at the end of next season.
Pervis Estupian’s rapid rise to prominence
Estupian was actually a member of Watford’s reserve team when he moved to Osasuna on a two-year loan deal last summer. But, he required very little time to settle into top-flight Spanish football. In fact, he instantly became a key component of the Osasuna backline, having already made 27 league appearances so far.
Indeed, Estupian has showcased immense all-round gameplay throughout the campaign. He notably has averaged an impressive 1.8 interceptions along with 3.7 attempted tackles on average per game with a success rate of 72%.
Moreover, the Ecuadorian international has amassed almost two successful dribbles and 1.3 key passes per game – making him equally effective in the creative department. His contributions on the flanks, therefore, have undoubtedly been critical behind Osasuna’s decent campaign that sees them maintain a comfortable position in mid-table.
What can he offer to the table?
As discussed earlier, Estupian has impressed the onlookers with his all-round gameplay. But in the defensive side of things, the 22-year-old has shown remarkable commitment. He is particularly useful when it comes to reading the game and cutting off passing lanes, thanks to his pace and tenacity.
Also, the Watford man is known for his physical stature that gives him the upper hand in a physical or even an aerial duel. In fact, Esputian has registered 1.3 headed duels won per game this season. These combine well with the player’s technical prowess – making him one of the most well-rounded fullbacks in La Liga.
Is Estupian a viable option for Mourinho?
Tottenham Hotspur are in desperate need of reinforcements in the left-back department this summer. Their only reliable option in Ben Davies has struggled with a lack of form following a host of fitness problems. He even faces an uncertain future at the club due to the change of manager.
Meanwhile, Jan Vertonghen is tipped to leave the club this summer when his contract comes to an end while Ryan Sessegnon doesn’t have the defensive prowess required to excel at left-back under Jose Mourinho. Estupian, in that regard, should be a massive coup for Spurs.
The Ecuadorian international has shown that he is ready to perform at the highest level of football, having been one of the most consistent players for Osasuna this campaign. His physicality, athleticism and technical prowess are ideal characteristics for anyone working under Mourinho’s tactical philosophy.
That being said, Estupian is not a realistic target for Spurs at the moment. He still has a contract of one more year at Osasuna, and it is also unlikely Watford will be willing to offload their prized asset to a league rival. Hence, it will be interesting to see how this transfer saga takes shape within the coming months.
