According to a recent report by The Daily Mail, Rangers will have to fork out £2m for Livingston centre-forward Lyndon Dykes this summer. The same source has also revealed that the Lions are demanding £2m for their prized asset with the Gers, Celtic and a handful of EFL Championship clubs keen on acquiring his services during the summer transfer period.
Dykes’ Incredible Form At West Lothian This Season
The Scottish striker enjoyed a brilliant campaign at the Almondvale Stadium last season after producing a series of productive displays as the focal point of Gary Holt’s attack. He has banged in 12 goals and provided ten assists in 33 appearances for Livingston in the previous campaign across all competitions. His stats highlight his growing influence in the final third and explain why both Rangers and Celtic are interested in recruiting him before the start of the new campaign.
However, Dykes has experienced his fair share of disciplinary problems after picking up eight yellow cards last season, which is unusual for a striker. He is yet to choose his national team as he is eligible to decide from either Australia or Scotland.
The 24-year-old had endured an ankle injury back in September last year which kept him out of a few games. But it shouldn’t be a big concern for any of his potential suitors based on his excellent goal-scoring form for the Lions before the football world came to a standstill because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
What Will The Scottish Attacker Bring To The Table?
Dykes has proven himself to be a productive presence inside the opposition penalty area. He can use his strength to overpower his marker in the air that allows him to be a constant menace up top. The talented Scotsman is a consistent goal-scorer and has also contributed by picking a lot of assists in the Scottish Premiership last season. Hence, he could end up being a decent choice to lead the charge for Rangers in the upcoming campaign if they can find a way to lure him to the Ibrox Stadium in this off-season.
Should Steven Gerrard Get Dykes On Board This Summer?
As long as Dykes can maintain his impressive form in league football, he should have no problems in winning over the Gers supporters quickly at Glasgow. The Livingston goal-getter has all the skillset required to become a success story under the tutelage of Steven Gerrard.
Dykes will not only add more goals and creativity to the Rangers frontline but also enhance the overall quality of their squad. Plus, he will also offer some healthy competition for Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe at the Ibrox next season. At 24, the Scottish centre-forward is about to enter his prime which the Glaswegian giants could look to benefit from in the coming seasons. Hence, it makes a lot of sense for Gerrard to orchestrate a move to get Dykes on board ahead of the new campaign, especially with Morelos’ future not yet settled.
