Newcastle United are held up in a tussle over their takeover bid with some complications arising in the proposed deal. However, the club have to prioritise completion of the current season at first which is set to restart in a few days from now.
Chronicle Live are now stating that the club have made a deal with Danny Rose to extend his loan till the end of the season. The Spurs player joined the Tyneside club in January this season for a six-month loan which is due to end this June. However, if the agreement has already been made, that would see the player remaining at the club till the end of the season.
The current situation at Newcastle United
The left-back situation of the Magpies had not been convincing enough for Steve Bruce to continue with his current crop till the end of the season. Jetro Willems has manned the position for most of the period, although the Dutch player’s performance has been under par. Matt Ritchie has also been an option for the manager, but even the Scotsman has not impressed the gaffer enough to cement his place in the first team.
In these circumstances, the club made a move for Danny Rose from Tottenham as a loan option in the winter transfer window after the 29-year-old failed to find regular first-team football under Jose Mourinho. In his 12 matches for the north London side, Rose had amassed a successful pass percentage of 80, more than any of the other Newcastle left-backs.
The other facets of the Englishman are his dribbling skills and pace, which allows him to sprint down the flanks to join the side in the attack. Bruce can do with a player of Rose’s capabilities and the unimpressive form shown by the creative department of the team can somewhat be managed with his presence.
What should Newcastle do?
Newcastle United are set to play another few matches in the Premier League, and the club are to take part in the FA Cup as well, where they face Manchester City next. Before the season gets over and the management is entangled with off-field involvements, the manager must look to end the term on a high. The presence of Rose, in that respect, would be of great help as the defender also brings with him a few years of experience playing at the top. Moreover, his football acumen also lifts the quality of the squad and increases competition for places in the team.
Overall, from the perspective of the defender, he would get another chance to showcase his talent before the end of the season and be able to make a more comprehensive decision regarding his future once he sits with the management of his parent club at the end of this term.
