Manchester United came into this match after a hard-fought draw against Tottenham Hotspur knowing well that they needed to grab all three points to push for a Champions League place. Sheffield United, on the other hand, suffered a defeat at the hands of Newcastle United after the restart of the league and they also needed to perform in a much better manner to keep their European dreams alive.
Eventually, it became a stroll in the park for the Red Devils with the Mancunians winning 3-0, thanks to a hattrick by Anthony Martial. As the game progressed, the visitors looked more toothless with them being unable to make the home side shed a sweat.
Manchester United players rated in their game against Sheffield United
David de Gea- 7
Honestly, the goalkeeper had nothing to do throughout the length of the match. Still, De Gea remained alert and picked up the passes from the defenders well.
Aaron Wan Bissaka- 9
The right-back had a brilliant game with him making the forward runs and joining the side in the attack. His crosses were exquisite, and he had an assist to his name to show for his efforts.
Victor Lindelöf- 7
Kept things tidy at the back, although the centre-backs had hardly anything to do.
Harry Maguire- 6
The lack of incision of the opposition had been a saving grace, however being the leader of the defence, there is a duty to keep things tight at the back. That was not the case at the beginning as Sheffield United did expose the gaps a few times.
Luke Shaw- 8.5
Made forward runs from the left flank and impressed the onlookers with his performance.
Paul Pogba- 8
The glimpses were there to see, and it’s apparent that the French superstar is coming back into a rhythm. However, this match was not the best occasion to judge him as the visitors put no pressure in the midfield.
Nemanja Matić- 7
Did his part at the heart of the midfield. Cannot be called a very flashy performance, but did not make any apparent error.
Bruno Fernandes- 5
Compared to his standards, his performance was rather disappointing. There was no end product, although he had quite a few decent opportunities to make a mark.
Marcus Rashford- 8
Can be called a mixed night for the forward. On one end, his link-up play with Martial was elegant, but he missed more than one clear opportunities to put his name on the scoresheet. Still grabbed two assists during the game.
Anthony Martial- 9.5
The star of the show tonight. Grabbed the first hattrick for the club in Premier League since 2013 and showed his vast talent. Also provided an intelligent pass to Rashford, who failed to convert.
Substitutes
Juan Mata- 7
The veteran player gets an extra mark for showing his industrious nature, although he looks a bit rusty.
Daniel James- 6
Combined well at the late stages of the match after coming on the field.
Odion Ighalo- 4
For a player for whom the United management negotiated hard with their Chinese counterpart to extend his loan move, the end product and first touch needs to improve vastly.
Scott McTominay- 5
Had limited opportunities to shine after tying his long term future with the club.
Andreas Pereira- 5
Seen in the midfield at the final stages. Did not have too much time to make a mark.
