Tottenham Hotspur will resume their 2019/20 Premier League campaign when they host Manchester United on Friday night. The Lilywhites are eyeing a recovery following a dire season, chock-full of mediocrity. However, a win on Friday could put them in touching distance of the Red Devils, who are currently fifth in the league table.
Predicted Tottenham Hotspur Lineup Vs Manchester United
Defence
Jose Mourinho is set to miss out on the services of Japhet Tanganga which could serve as a massive blow for Spurs. It means Serge Aurier will likely have to settle for a more defensive right-back role in a four-man backline, with Ben Davies starting on the opposite flank. The Welshman’s performances in the upcoming matches could dictate his future at the club.
In central defence, Jan Vertonghen, whose contract expires at the end of the season, is an option. However, Mourinho is set to persist with the defensive duo of Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez at the heart of the four-man backline.
Hugo Lloris is a guaranteed starter in goal. The Frenchman will be looking for a strong performance following a somewhat disappointing campaign so far.
Midfield
Mourinho will face a selection dilemma in central midfield. Dele Alli has been ruled out while the in-form Giovani Lo Celso is also a doubt heading into this game. That means the Portuguese mastermind could be forced to employ a three-man setup, with the now-fit Moussa Sissoko tipped to start.
The Frenchman could be deployed alongside the underperforming Tanguy Ndombele and the ever-present figure of Harry Winks, at the base of Tottenham’s 4-3-3. These three could play a key role in containing the Manchester United midfield and help their club dominate the middle third of the pitch.
Attack
Thanks to the three-month absence of football, Tottenham Hotspur have been boosted by the return of star striker Harry Kane. The English international has featured in the friendly against Norwich and is line to spearhead the Spurs attack this week.
Son Heung-Min is also in contention to start. The South Korean star is expected to be deployed in his preferred left-wing slot, with Lucas Moura operating on the opposite flank. Steven Bergwijn is another option Mourinho could utilise, with the Dutchman having enjoyed a promising start to his Premier League career.
