Borussia Dortmund will be aiming to finish their 2019/20 Bundesliga campaign on a positive note when they face Fortuna Dusseldorf on Saturday. Die Schwarzgelben are currently second in the league table, trailing league leaders by seven points heading into this weekend’s round of fixture. That means Bayern Munich could win the league if Dortmund fail to secure a win against Dusseldorf tomorrow.
Predicted Borussia Dortmund Lineup Vs Fortuna Dusseldorf
Defence
Lucien Favre will be boosted by the return of defensive leader Mats Hummels this weekend. He missed out against Hertha Berlin due to suspension but will be keen on reinstating his place at the heart of Borussia Dortmund’s three-man backline, at the expense of Emre Can.
Hummels is set to be partnered by Lukasz Piszczek and Manuel Akanji, who is arguably the most in-form defender for Dortmund at the moment. The Swiss international will look to continue his excellent run of form in his bid to seek redemption following a disappointing start to the campaign.
Roman Burki, meanwhile, is a guaranteed starter in the between the sticks. The goalkeeper is reportedly on the verge of extending his contract at Dortmund.
Midfield
Hummels replacing Can in central defence means the ex-Liverpool is likely to shift into his familiar role at central midfield. There, he can reunite with his partner Axel Witsel, who is back in the groove after a few injury troubles last month. These two will form the double-pivot, with Thomas Delaney starting on the bench and Mahmoud Dahoud out injured.
Elsewhere, Achraf Hakimi and Raphael Guerreiro are the undisputed starters in the Dortmund lineup. They will look to provide creativity and offensive support from the wing-back positions.
Attack
Erling Haaland is in line to return to full fitness after missing out on the last couple of matches due to injury. The Norwegian starlet, therefore, is more than expected to replace Thorgan Hazard in the number nine role, spearheading the Borussia Dortmund attack.
Haaland will be partnered by the usual creative duo of Jadon Sancho and Julian Brandt, although Favre also has a few other notable options including Hazard, Mario Gotze and Giovanni Reyna. Even Marco Reus has returned to training, although the German international is not yet fully fit to feature in this encounter.
