According to a recent report by The Athletic (Paid Subscription Required), Premier League giants Chelsea will be financially backed by Roman Abramovich this summer, after it was clarified that the Russian owner remains ‘as enthusiastic as ever’ in the club’s ambitions and desires. The report suggests that the Blues’ Oligarch owner is willing to sanction multiple big-money signings in the summer, as long as the move is deemed to be right for the club’s plans for the future.
The report suggests that the London club are keen to make two signings for sure and that there could be even more in the pipeline at Stamford Bridge. With Chelsea interested in three Bundesliga superstars – Timo Werner, Jadon Sancho and Kai Havertz, their intentions for the upcoming Premier League campaign are apparent to see. It is further claimed in the report that the Blues will be boosted in the summer by the pending transfer fees generated from the sales of Belgian ace Eden Hazard and Spanish forward Alvaro Morata.
Chelsea Interested In Three Bundesliga Superstars: What Will They Each Bring To West London?
Jadon Sancho
The English speedster was a product of the Manchester City academy and is hence well-versed with the ways of the English game. A pacy dribbler who is capable of getting past any defender in the world using his skills and trickery, Sancho has been linked to a plethora of top clubs over the last few months. His exploits for Borussia Dortmund this season have been excellent, as was in their most recent Bundesliga win, where Sancho managed to pick up a hat-trick.
Timo Werner
Timo Werner would offer Chelsea a level of versatility that the other two players in the equation just wouldn’t. The German speedster is capable of playing anywhere across the front-line – be it as a winger, as a number ten, or even as the main striker. The Leipzig man has displayed brilliant form in the Bundesliga all through the season, and his departure could have dire effects on the state of that team. There isn’t much that Werner doesn’t do well while out on the pitch, and that is sure to be a point of attraction for Frank Lampard.
Kai Havertz
The 20-year-old is the third Bundesliga attacker that the Blues have been linked with over recent weeks and with good reason. The Bayer Leverkusen man’s form has been sublime all through the campaign, and the sheer amount of finesse and flair he adds in the final third of the pitch simply cannot be underplayed. A tall player by stature, the German boasts strong footwork for a man of his age, while he also possesses the finishing abilities of an experienced campaigner. Havertz is at his best when deployed as the number ten, but also has the quality required to operate on one of the flanks if necessary.
The Verdict
Chelsea’s search for players this summer have been no secret and considering that they started the current season with no new acquisitions owing to a transfer ban, it’s only logical. The potential departures of Willian and Pedro will leave a gaping hole in the Chelsea squad, and signing one of the above players would go a long way towards solving that issue. Jadon Sancho’s pure dribbling skills could be an excellent addition for Chelsea, as would Timo Werner’s versatility.
With that said though, it must be conceded that Kai Havertz should be the player that Chelsea look to sign. The youngster’s exploits for Leverkusen this season have turned heads all over the continent, and he would probably slot well into Lampard’s dynamic system at Chelsea. Although acquiring any one of these names would definitely improve the Chelsea squad, the most sensible pick from a footballing standpoint would have to be German ace Kai Havertz.
