According to a recent report by the Daily Record, the President of Austrian football club Wolfsberger AC has commented that their prized possession – Celtic-linked Israeli forward Shon Weissman, will only be willing to make a move away if he can go to either England or Germany this summer. The report suggests that the forward is keeping all speculation away from his earshot until the Austrian league season comes to a close, with eight rounds of fixtures remaining for the Lavanttal-Arena club.
The report clarified that Celtic are interested in Shon Weissman, but the recent comments by his club’s president could come as a stumbling block to Neil Lennon’s ambitions regarding the forward. He said, “Of course there have been plenty of interest in Shon. But all these have come from clubs in countries that Shon isn’t interested in going. His goal is clearly to play in England or Germany – that’s where he wants to go. And staying at Wolfsberger isn’t entirely out of the question too. Everything is possible with him.”
What Makes Shon Weissman An Attractive Prospect For Celtic?
The 24-year-old is amongst the highest-rated centre-forwards in the whole of Europe now, and with good reason. The Israel international has been seen scoring goals at a remarkably consistent pace over the entire course of the season.
Despite being his team’s main striker, he’s also adept at linking up play and bringing the other attackers in the squad into the game as well. A willing runner off the ball, Weissman often makes dummy runs down the sides to open up spaces all around him.
The Israeli forward’s biggest selling point is undoubtedly his finishing when inside the box though. He boasts excellent reaction time and is hence usually first to strike a loose ball in the box. Not just this, the 24-year-old also possesses stellar finishing abilities. Weissman has the uncanny skill to leave defenders for dead with his sharp runs in between the lines, and once he gets into a shooting position, the likelihood of the ball hitting the target is quite high.
Despite not being the tallest player in the world, the attacker offers a good physical presence in and around the box, while his ability to win back loose balls is unparalleled. The forward’s exploits over the current league campaign have hoisted Wolfsberger to 3rd place on the Austrian Bundesliga table, while Weissman finds himself atop the goalscoring charts as well. The attacker has produced a quite sublime record of 24 goals and five assists from 24 league outings this term.
Celtic Are Interested In Shon Weissman: Why Lennon Must Lure Him To Parkhead
The forward has proven throughout the season that given the right service, he has the potential to put the ball into the back of the net consistently. Odsonne Edouard serves the same purpose for Neil Lennon’s side at this point, but all the questions surrounding his immediate future will be concerning the staff and fans alike. Moving for Weissman would be a no-brainer given his sensational scoring record, and Neil Lennon must do everything in his power to convince the Israel international that Celtic are just as attractive a destination as any of the smaller Premier League or Bundesliga clubs.
