Chronicle Live are reporting that Newcastle United will try to convince Isaac Hayden to sign a new deal with the club and manager Steve Bruce is hoping that he will soon put pen to paper. In a recent interview, he has stated “I sincerely hope he does. I thought it was Isaac’s best performance under me since I’ve been at the club. That didn’t surprise me because when we came back in, he was in terrific shape, battling to go. I’ve said from day one that I’d love Isaac to stay. He’s the sort of type the club’s been built around since the Championship but, obviously, there are personal circumstances that he’s got and we’ll keep plugging away and see what we can do.”
Is Isaac Hayden an indispensable player to Newcastle?
The Englishman has been one of the most important men for the side in the recent seasons, and since Steve Bruce has taken over at Newcastle, Hayden’s prominence in the squad has risen. This season he has played in 30 matches for the side across all competitions. In the Premier League alone, the 25-year-old has taken part in 26 games with 2145 minutes of playing time under his belt.
Since the restart of the league after the COVID-19 pandemic, Hayden has played in both the matches that Newcastle has taken part in, and his performance against Sheffield United impressed one and all. He even grabbed an assist in the same game to show for his efforts.
The midfielder acts like an engine at the centre of the pitch for the Magpies dictating the terms of the play. His defensive capability is well known, and the ex-Hull City man is a shield in front of the back four. This term he has made 1.4 interceptions and 1.3 clearances on an average per game in the league, thereby highlighting his importance to the side.
Although not known for creativity, he has made one dribble per 90 minutes this term and has also scored a single goal for the side. For a player who plies his trade as a central-midfielder, a passing rate of 78.9% could undoubtedly improve. Still, it has to be taken into consideration that he is not surrounded by too many talented individuals.
What can be his role for the club?
The report states that previously Hayden has considered leaving the side for family reason as his daughter and fiancée stays elsewhere. However, the appointment of Bruce convinced him to change his mind as he had previously worked under the gaffer at Hull. The ex-Aston Villa manager believes that Hayden would again change his mind and sign a long term deal with the Tyneside club.
Newcastle United are right now facing uncertainties regarding their proposed takeover, but as per the latest reports, the Saudis are assured of completing the process. If the acquisition is completed, the club would have immense financial capability to go after the biggest of the stars in world football. However, building a team is a time-consuming process, and it cannot be expected that they would be able to bolster every area of the pitch at one go. Therefore, Hayden can still play a vital role for the club next season irrespective of the club’s imminent future, thus making the management offer him a new deal.
