According to Nicolo Schira, Bayern Munich have opted not to exercise their option to sign Ivan Perisic. The Inter Milan winger was signed on loan last summer but has struggled with a lack of game-time. And with the Bavarians unlikely to sign him permanently, the winger faces an uncertain future. In this article, we will discuss why Tottenham Hotspur must sign Ivan Perisic this summer.
Perisic’s spell at Bayern Munich
Perisic arrived at the Allianz Arena to add some experience to the Bayern Munich attack, which was still fresh from the loss of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery. He was even considered to be a first-team option by many experts, especially given the injury problems of Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman.
However, with 25 matches already being played, Perisic is yet to muster 1,000 minutes of league football this season. He has often been overlooked in favour of the likes of Thomas Muller and Gnabry while an ankle injury in early February didn’t help either.
That being said, Perisic’s short ongoing spell at Bayern Munich has not been a disaster by any means. The Croatian international has been involved in nine goals in 15 matches, helping the Bavarians recover from a disastrous start to their league campaign.
Why Tottenham Hotspur must sign Ivan Perisic this summer
Much like Bayern Munich last season, Tottenham Hotspur are in dire need of an experienced figure in the offensive department. Perisic fits the bill like no one else.
Hardened by years of experience at the highest level of football, the 31-year-old has made a combined total of almost 270 appearances during his time in the German and Italian top flight. He has also won 88 caps for the Croatian national team while securing a German league title with Borussia Dortmund.
Perisic, therefore, will provide Jose Mourinho with an additional option in the final third – someone who can not only add more quality into the strikeforce but can also instil a winning mentality into the team. His combination with the likes of Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane, in particular, could once again make Spurs one of the most feared teams in Europe.
Moreover, Perisic should be a financially feasible target for Tottenham Hotspur, with the player nearing the final stage of his career. Inter Milan have also appeared keen on undergoing an offensive overhaul, meaning they could look to offload the winger for a cut-price this summer.
