According to a recent report by French news source Le10Sport, Premier League outfit West Ham United are said to be among a trio of English top-flight clubs who are claimed to be keeping tabs on the situation of Amiens striker Serhou Guirassy. The report suggests that the French forward is also being pursued by both Chelsea and Tottenham, but that the heaviest interest of the lot does come from David Moyes and his team at the London Stadium.
The report clarifies that the Hammers had an attempt to sign the forward in January deflected by the Ligue 1 side, but that they are still hot on the striker’s trail. Amiens are said to be expecting somewhere in the region of £15m-£20m for the Frenchman’s services, owing largely to the fact that they have saved themselves from relegation this season. The Ligue 1 striker is also said to be keen on finding a move away to allow his career to develop, while also ensuring that he would get enough playing time.
What Is West Ham United’s Current Strike Situation?
The Hammers started the campaign with summer acquisition Sebastien Haller expected to lead the line for the entirety of the campaign. Despite some positive signs in the first few fixtures, it must be conceded that the Frenchman has struggled to settle into life in the Premier League.
The London club’s concerns in front of goal cost Manuel Pellegrini his job midway through the season, and former Manchester United coach David Moyes was appointed at the London stadium.
Moyes’ second stint as the West Ham manager began decently, but things soon took a turn for the worse. While there were certain signs of positivity, the worrying fact remains that the Hammers produced just 35 goals in the league until the campaign was brought to a halt, and currently they sit in an abysmal 16th place. The addition of a new striker could be necessity going into next season, especially considering the other option – Michail Antonio, a winger.
What Would Serhou Guirassy Add To This West Ham United Side?
Guirassy is a 24-year-old French centre-forward who currently plies his trade for Amiens. The former Koln and Lille man has been in excellent form for the Ligue 1 side this season, and his finishing abilities have certainly not gone under the radar either. A willing runner who’s also capable of out-muscling most centre-halves in Europe, the tall Frenchman would offer a similar kind of skill-set to Haller, but with an added edge of physicality and sheer desire. Guirassy is a strong passer of the ball, and as good as his finishing is, the Amiens man can be expected to pick out the right ball to the right man whenever required.
Why Moyes Must Beat Chelsea And Spurs To Serhou Guirassy’s Signature?
The Hammers have been one of the largest spenders in the Premier League over the last couple of years, and while that should be a good thing, it’s turned out to be their downfall. The London club haven’t improved at all throughout the two league campaigns, and if anything, this season was a little worse off than the last one. While defending has been an issue, it’s quite clearly eclipsed by the need for a potent goalscorer. Although Haller was brought in to fill that void exactly, the forward has struggled to adjust to life in England. Guirassy offers a good blend of physical prowess and intelligence, and would hence be a smart signing by Moyes if they’re able to get it done.
