According to Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with Bayern Munich regarding the availability of Taylor Booth. The young midfielder has emerged as the latest target for the Premier League giants, with the player reportedly catching the eye of Jose Mourinho back in December.
Tottenham, eyeing a move for Taylor Booth, suggests that the Portuguese mastermind is keen on securing future prospects. That is why the club has also expressed an interest in Taylor’s brother, Zach Booth, who plays for the ZBR academy in the United States.
Who is Taylor Booth?
Born in Eden, Utah, Booth was also a member of the ZBR academy before moving to Bayern Munich in January 2019. He joined Bayern’s U19 side, and since then, he has emerged as one of the club’s most promising youth players.
Booth has already featured in eleven games in the U-19 Bundesliga this season, registering three assists. He was most notably involved in UEFA Youth League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur U19, when the youngster starred in a comfortable 3-0 win for the Bavarians, notching up two assists.
Meanwhile, Booth has also been a regular with the United States youth teams. Given the way he has progressed over the past 12 months, the midfielder is almost guaranteed to gain a more prominent role in Bayern’s youth setup. A direct promotion to the reserve side or even the first-team could be on the cards this summer.
What can he add to the table?
Booth is a silky midfielder, whose style of play can be compared to Bayern Munich superstar Thiago Alcantara. Primarily known for his technical prowess, the American is gifted with an excellent passing range. He can evade the opposing press with his brilliant vision, which is combined with nifty footwork, thus allowing him to nestle through tight spaces.
Also, the 18-year-old is capable of threading diagonal long-balls. However, most importantly, Booth is not shy of dropping deep and pick the ball up from defenders. He is, therefore, a natural anchor-man, who can run things in midfield with his passing, positional sense and intelligence.
Tottenham eyeing move for Taylor Booth: A long-term option for Jose?
It is needless to point out that Booth is not ready to be considered as a first-team material. Still, Tottenham could undoubtedly use a player like him in their ranks. His ability to build the ball up in midfield and distribute possession all around the park is something Mourinho’s team clearly lack at the moment.
The Bayern Munich youngster doesn’t have any experience at the highest level of football. Still, a summer move to Spurs’ reserve side could make sense as regularly playing in the Premier League 2 should help the youngster gain some valuable experience. Therefore, Booth is indeed a viable long-term option for Spurs as they look to usher in a new era under Mourinho.
