According to RMC Sport, as cited by GFFN, Tottenham Hotspur have contacted PSG for Hubert Mbuyi-Muamba. The young defender has emerged as the latest target for the Lilywhites as they look to undergo a potential overhaul in the defensive department. However, Spurs could face stiff competition from FC Porto in the pursuit of Mbuyi-Muamba.
The report further states that PSG are unwilling to let go of their prized youngster in the upcoming summer transfer window, with the player’s contract expiring at the end of next season.
Who is Hubert Mbuyi-Muamba?
A native of Montfermeil, France, Mbuyi-Muamba has been a part of the PSG youth side since 2017 when he joined the U17 squad. Since then, the young defender has been making waves in the youth competitions, notably becoming the captain for the U17 before being promoted to the U19 side last summer.
Mbuyi-Muamba’s performances not only in the French youth leagues but also in the UEFA Youth League have raised quite a lot of eyebrows. As a result, he is now considered as one of the most promising talents in the PSG academy.
Although the 17-year-old is yet to make his breakthrough in professional football, he is tipped to do so in the upcoming years, especially given how youngsters have gained recognition in top-flight football in recent years.
Hubert Mbuyi-Muamba’s current situation at PSG
With his contract expiring in June 2021, Mbuyi-Muamba will soon have to decide on his future. PSG have appeared adamant in keeping hold of the centre-back, especially as they prepare for life without Thiago Silva. At the age of 35, the Brazilian is nearing the end of his career. And his potential retirement could help Mbuyi-Muamba get a promotion to the senior side.
But, at the same time, a move away from the French capital won’t be a bad idea either. Leagues like Bundesliga or even Ligue 1 itself have become the breeding ground for talented young footballers and given Mbuyi-Muamba’s potential; he could certainly make a mark in either of these two leagues, provided he gets the opportunity.
Tottenham have contacted PSG for Hubert Mbuyi-Muamba: One for the future?
Tottenham seems like a rather bizarre destination for Mbuyi-Muamba. The Lilywhites are currently in need of quality reinforcements in the defensive department, especially with Jan Vertonghen’s contract running out. However, Jose Mourinho is unlikely to consider the Frenchman as part of the senior side, even.
In fact, Mbuyi-Muamba, if he joins Tottenham, will be likely be drafted into the reserve side, thus stifling his progress. In that sense, a move to Borussia Monchengladbach or even FC Porto would be a much wiser choice for the defender as he seeks to take the next step in his career.
