Newcastle United could potentially be the next big club in world football, and the early indications show that their project is very ambitious. From trying to get the best players in the world to making an endeavour in signing the most talented managers, the prospective new owners of the club are leaving no stones unturned.
In this regard, it is worth mentioning that though the Magpies have already been linked with Mauricio Pochettino, their search for a gaffer is still on with Julian Nagelsmann the latest name to be associated with the club. The Express reports that although Pochettino is the first choice of the board, the other options that the club is scouring are Nagelsmann, Rafa Benitez and Massimiliano Allegri.
The rise and rise of Julian Nagelsmann
At 32, most of the prospective managers are still trying to learn the trade by being under the tutelage of someone. Nagelsmann, on the other hand, is one of the most talked-about managers of the world at his tender age. Under him, RB Leipzig has been challenging the two stalwarts of Germany, Bayern and Borussia Dortmund, constantly.
He was given the charge as the head coach of 1899 Hoffenheim when he was just 28 years of age in February 2016. When he was appointed as the manager, the team was languishing at 17th place in the league. Under him, the team won 7 of their 14 remaining matches, thus avoiding relegation. The next season, the German manager did more wonders by guiding the team to Champions League for the first time in the club’s history. This grabbed the attention of other teams across the league, and he was appointed as the manager of RB Leipzig last summer.
What will Nagelsmann bring?
Nagelsmann’s greatest strength is his no-nonsense approach. He is not one of the managers to indulge in excessive talking in front of the media; in fact, he is known to shy away from them. The German loves to play an attacking brand of football and asks his wing-backs to sprint higher up the pitch to help with the attack. The biggest forte of this master tactician is his skill of man-management.
Timo Werner, one of the hottest prospects of world football at the moment, has thrived under him, and one can see the direct influence of Nagelsmann’s philosophy in the way Werner plays. His handling of the youngster has helped the player keep his head in the right place, and now Werner is reaping the benefits.
Mauricio Pochettino is a much more experienced man with the Argentine having managed in the Premier League for a long time. One can argue that the ex-Spurs manager is more suited to the job, considering the stature of the players Newcastle are trying to bring in. However, if the club are unable to convince Pochettino, then Nagelsmann would be the man for the job. We have no doubt he would be a brilliant choice for Newcastle United.
