The football world, to a large extent, is guided by money and money is one thing that Newcastle United should have in plenty after their proposed takeover. This has made the club go for the biggest of the stars in Europe, and so far it seems that they would be successful in roping in a few of them.
Calciomercato now reports that the latest name linked with the English club is Juventus outcast Adrien Rabiot. The former PSG man is also on the radar of other English clubs like Manchester United and Everton. But the Magpies are better placed to land the French star with a better deal than what their rivals could offer.
What would Adrien Rabiot bring to Newcastle United?
The 25-year-old had been in the PSG youth ranks for a long time before joining the first team in 2012. Playing for the French side since 2019, Rabiot left for Juventus last summer on a free transfer. His time for the Italian champions has not been smooth, to say the least, appearing 17 times in the Serie A, without scoring any goals.
Plying his trade in central-midfield, Rabiot’s main forte is his attacking prowess. His hardworking nature enables him to run throughout the length of the pitch with ease, a quality that could help him establish himself in the Premier League. His creativity and dribbling skills ensure that he can get ahead of the opposition defenders effortlessly.
Rabiot is also capable of taking the possession back from the opposition players, which acts as an extra shield for the defenders of his team. His technique and physicality have earned praise from supporters all around the world, something which could come in handy in England.
The downside of the deal
It is not without reason that the midfielder left PSG on a free transfer a year ago, only to be linked with a departure from Juventus just the next season. Rabiot’s temperament and his behaviour on the field have been subject of criticism for a long time. Add to that, the fact that the French international has time and again got himself involved in tussles with managers, making his position vulnerable in the team. Moreover, his inconsistency on the field at times has not helped his cause either, with the Juve man going through a patch of bad form at times.
However, the Newcastle board are looking to integrate a new squad, a team which could help them to be considered in the league of the big boys. A proven man like Rabiot could be a step in the right direction as the Frenchman has the capability to reinvent himself and there is no reason to believe that he won’t be able to do the same in England.
