Bayern Munich regained their three-point lead at the top of the table, thanks to a comfortable 2-0 win over Union Berlin this evening. The Bavarians dominated the game throughout the ninety minutes, with goals from Robert Lewandowski and Benjamin Pavard helping them continue their excellent run of form in 2020.
Bayern Munich players rated in their win over Union Berlin
Manuel Neuer 7/10
A convincing display from Manuel Neuer, in between the sticks today. He answered everything Union threw in his way, deservedly keeping a clean sheet. Although with just one shot on target, he must prepare for tougher challenges going forward.
Benjamin Pavard 9/10
Pavard was brilliant this afternoon. He went up and down the pitch, covering the entirety of the right flank and providing additional offensive support. Scored the second goal with an excellent header late in the game.
Jerome Boateng 7.5/10
It was an averaged defensive display from Jerome Boateng, who looked slow dealing with the opposing attackers. Might have gotten exposed against a sharper set of attackers.
David Alaba 8.5/10
While Boateng was struggling to make his impact, David Alaba did his duty in central defence. The Austrian was simply mesmerising in the build-up, provided adequate cover in defence and helped Bayern preserve their clean sheet.
Alphonso Davies 8/10
Alphonso Davies’ sheer pace was on show today. The Canadian did well to cover and avoid himself from getting exposed. He also influenced the game in the attacking third, combining with Serge Gnabry.
Joshua Kimmich 8.5/10
Joshua Kimmich’s aggression, tenacity and leadership were key in helping Bayern Munich dominate the game throughout the match. The German international also delivered a sumptuous cross that led to the Pavard goal.
Thiago Alcantara 8/10
Complimented the work of Kimmich in central midfield and eased Bayern’s transition with his silky passes and clever movements. Yet another influential performance from the Spaniard.
Thomas Muller 9/10
Thomas Muller has picked up from where he had left off prior to the Coronavirus pandemic. His stunning combination play, smart runs and brilliant hold-up play made life exceedingly difficult for the Union Berlin defenders. He was unfortunate not to get on to the scoresheet, though.
Leon Goretzka 8.5/10
Leon Goretzka was fouled way too often meaning he was indeed a vital cog in Bayern’s creative game. The German international offered himself to be a passion option for his teammates in the final third.
Serge Gnabry 8.5/10
Gnabry’s relentless movements in the final third caused havoc in the Union backline. However, the ex-Arsenal star would have been hoping to be more productive.
Robert Lewandowski 8.5/10
Lewandowski continued his form after an injury layoff. His first-half penalty meant he has now scored 40+ goals in all competitions in each of the last five seasons.
