As reported by Birmingham Live, the outcome of Liverpool’s proposed chase of Timo Werner could have a grave impact over Aston Villa’s pursuit of Milot Rashica. It is believed that if the Reds manage to secure the services of Werner this summer, it could force RB Leipzig to set their sights on Rashica, making it significantly difficult for Villa to sign the Bremen forward.
Milot Rashica: One of the best wingers in the Bundesliga
Rashica is joined by the likes of Jadon Sancho and Serge Gnabry among the most dangerous wingers in the Bundesliga right now. The Kosovan forward has enjoyed immense success in the German top flight, following his €7 million move to Werder Bremen in January 2018. He was notably involved in 14 goals in his debut campaign in Germany.
And the youngster has been able to replicate his performances this season as well, having scored seven goals in 20 matches. He has also registered four assists, and his overall contributions in the final third have been one of the few brights spots in an otherwise dire campaign for the Grunweissen.
What can he add to the table?
Much like Sancho, Rashica is a dynamic wide attacker, who relies on his pace and trickery to get past opposing defenders. He is blessed with quick feet that allow him to nestle through tight spaces while his speed makes him a scourge on the counter. The winger has notably averaged 2.2 successful dribbles per game this season.
A key part of Rashica’s style is his tendency to thread in crosses from outside the penalty area. It is backed up by statistics as well, with a majority of his chances created originating from either crosses or set pieces. However, what makes the Kosovan such a sought-after winger in Europe is his willingness to test the goalkeeper.
Indeed, Rashica has averaged a whopping three shots on goal per game, which is quite an impressive tally even for a centre forward. In fact, only four players (having played at least 20 games) have averaged more shots on goal per game than the Bremen forward.
Is Rashica a realistic target for Aston Villa?
Rashica will bring so much more to the Aston Villa attack than manager Dean Smith can ever imagine. His remarkable chance creation, combined with his pace, aggression and scoring prowess makes him one of the most unique and effective wingers in Germany. And with that in mind, it seems unlikely that the 23-year-old would want to move to Aston Villa this summer.
However, it is clear that the Kosovan international is set to leave Bremen, who are destined to get relegated this season. And Smith, therefore, will keep his fingers crossed, knowing Liverpool’s trail of Werner could play a key role in Rashica’s future in the upcoming summer transfer window.
